One of the most elegant, regal creatures on this earth is the Greyhound. The tour was not only fun, but it was informative. I'm adding your link to my page, and hopefully another beauty will find a new, loving home.

Excellent sight! We have adopted two greyhounds from St. Croix Meadows Adoption program in Wisconsin and are hooked for life. If anyone else is in the area drop us a line. We are looking into doing some sort off active promotion of the adoption of greyhounds in this area, any advice would be appreciated.

We had the privilege of keeping a greyhound for a friend and fell in love w ith the breed. After an unsuccessful attempt at the adoption of an Australian Shepherd, our experience with the greyhound was quite refreshing. We hope to adopt our own greyhound soon.

My husband and I are thinking of getting another dog. We had to put to sleep my 10 yr. mixed last Nov. We have 3 children ages 8,5,and 3 as well as 3 cats, fish and a turtle. We are leaning toward a greyhound because of the loving nature of the breed. And the fact that when they come home they are not tiny pups that I would have to worry about my children loving to death. This is a great web site that we have found has answered alot of unanswered questions. I guess our next step would be to find an adoption group in my area. Perhaps the next time we tap into this web we will be telling all of you about our new family member.

We are just beginning our family and we have an infant.
We are planning to have more and I was just wondering
if anyone had any comments about Greyhounds and very
young children. I know that no dogs can be left alone
with young children, but our Cocker Spaniel is getting
up there in years and he's not very good with any children.
He really just ignores our son, but we were thinking
about maybe getting a Greyhound after the Cocker Spaniel.
Any thoughts or comments are welcomed about my query.
Thanks.

My son and I found your site today and responded to a woman's request for further information on Greyhound adoption. I can't begin to explain the joy of owning a Greyhound! We filled out an application for adoption through Greyhound Rescue of Sugar Loaf, NY in December of 1996. Three days after Easter, I received a phone call from Karen of Greyhound Rescue letting me know that she had a "match". Goliath was rescued from a track in Florida on Easter Sunday and we were scheduled to meet him in two days. My Dad and I, with my 11 year old son (to test the likes children part)went to pick him up.When I saw him for the first time and he put his head on my shoulder, that was the beginning of special relationship. We have 3 cats and 3 young boys, so my husband and I were concerned about an "older" dog...Goliath is just starting his "puppyhood" he was never able to enjoy. He and the cats live very contently together..and he loves the boys...his playmates! I can't imagine our family without him. He is very loveable and devoted to us all, especially his "Mom". He is very clean and surprisingly for his 77 pounds, very agile in our home. Many people are unaware that Greyhounds don't smell..their fur is quite different from many other breeds. Thease dogs need a second chance and I can assure you that you won't be disappointed.

My husband and I adopted a light blue brindle(the rarest color), male-almost four years ago. What a delight he is. Would not trade this boy for a million bucks. He came to us through the Michigan Greyhound people. He raced in Iowa and in Oregon. How can anyone NOT own a grey!!

Written somewhere in my DNA is a code for loving greyhounds. I cannot explain it any other way. They are simply the most beautiful creatures on earth--elegant, graceful, aristocratic, and with the kindness afforded such regal beings. My three greyhounds are the light of my life. I will never allow any other kind of dog to own me, I think. These beautiful animals have possessed my heart since I first saw a photograph of one when I was a child. It is my sorrow that I cannot rescue all of them; I am pleased there are so many who love them as much as I do.

I just had to put my 8 year old Bowser down because he had a brain tumor. We spent six years with this wonderful animal and we all miss him. However, I now have two more greyt dogs, Ray and Fena, both 4 years old, along with my Australian Shepherd Sparky and a calico cat. I would have taken all the dogs at the adoption center if I had the room!!
I do need some advice, though. Sparky and Ray are both very good about not going potty in the house. Fena is not so great at it. Any advice?

A beautiful red female greyhound (Sukie) joined our family last week. She is so sweet! Smiles and kisses all the time. Loves her fenced in yard an new sister (Molly, a labrador). Both dogs get along very well and share toys and soft cushions. Sukie has claimed Momma's bed as her own and snuggles up close at night.

we adopted "Marge", a tan and white, 3 year old female in July 3, l997. She came into a family consisting of l golden retriever/german shepherd, and 1 black lab/springer spaniel, 2 children, guinea pigs, a free-roaming rabbit and numerous other pets. She has adjusted fine, no problem adjusting to other dogs, however did chase and catch rabbit, but didn't hurt it. She likes jazz music when left alone and loves people. She is outgoing, pretty smart, was easily housebroken and is a great pet and companion. I would encourage anyone thinking of greyhound adoption to do so. Oh, Marge came from Idaho.

Ebony was next...she's 5 1/2, and is all black. and we recently adopted Dreamer. He's the 'old man' at 8 1/2. He's red and white. We also have 2 children and a cat. I adopted a two year old sheltie about 6 months ago.
He is a funny little dog, very gregarious and active,
about 25 pounds. My daughter and I take him running
with us almost every day. He is ok at running, but
not real focused on the task at hand. I wonder how a
greyhound would do as a running companion?

I have been interested in Greyhounds for as long as I can remember. I have always been interested in adopting one. They seem to be such sweet and loving animals. I would love any information about these lovely creatures. I do have two ferrets (which I took in), a part Golden Retriever part Chow dog (that I found in my parents neighborhood), and a cat (which I adopted from a wonderful agency). Would a Greyhound get along with these animals? Are they more submissive animals or dominant? I loved this website. It is full of information. I've already bookmarked it and plan on returning again!!

I adopted "Mocha," a fawn-colored sweetheart of just over 5-years old on October 22. I read all about greyhounds through other sources, but I just wish I'd found your site before! Great information and resources! Of course, I feel like I'm "preaching to the choir" about how wonderful these animals are, but "Mocha" is the best spokesdog for adoption in the world! When we sit at Starbucks for coffee and conversation, people all stop and ask all about her. She's docile, kind, quiet, and very sweet, so her fans are legion! With all the questions, I hand out cards for the Colorado Greyhound Adoption contacts. I'm so lucky to have a "fast friend" like Mocha in my life!

Love this page, and these dogs. I have Labrador's but I am a lover of all creatures. I saw my first off track Greyhound at a Mall in Buffalo last year. It was at a large pet shop and the first I had ever heard of your program. I think it is wonderful. I loved the female they had there. She was so quiet and shy and almost fearful, but still loving even to complete strangers. Send me more info. If I can talk my husband in to another critter in the house, I would love to get one at some point in the future. My girls are full sisters from the same litter, do you have information about the compatibility of Labs with the Greyhounds. Labs are lovers, I don't see a problem unless there is something in the greyhound personality that I am not aware of. Also, I have 6 grandchildren, they would have to like children. I know some breeds are wonderful but not rec. for around small children. How about the Greyhounds?? Their situation is so sad. They are so beautiful. Put me on your mailing list definitely!!!

Thanks for creating a great site!
We have two greyhounds, a male tan brindle, Jake, and a female black brindle, Beth. I have enjoyed finding greyhound sites and seeing pics of other greyhounds.
Beth has German Shepard Pannus in her eyes and earlier this fall she had surgery to remove one eye. It's amazing how well she has recovered. The week after her surgery, she went on an 8-mile hiking trail in the mountains that included 3,500 feet in elevation gain! What a great dog!
We love our dogs very much and know that we will adopt more when the time comes. We have a good-sized yard and are always on the lookout for other greyhounds who might want to come play or for enclosed spaces we can turn them loose in. We're in the west Denver metro area if anyone has suggestions.

I finally found your website have been looking for awhile.
Have 2 greyhounds Steeler a Blue steel. He will be 12yrs old in July 1998. I got him 5 1/2 yrs ago . I was he 5th home he had trouble with his other homes since he was such a mess and his name fit him he loves to steal stuff off the tables and counters we just learned to put things away so he cant reach them,
Just a few days ago I found out Steeler has bone cancer in his right front leg. He is on pain pills and doing better but in time a few weeks to a month he will have to be put to sleep. I will be hard he has been my best friend and buddy.
I also own another greyhound Princess I found her running around my neighborhood. She almost got hit by a car. I got a hold or her took her home. Called the rescue. They looked for her owners and we posted ads in the local papers and on poles in the neighborhood no one claimed her and I'm happy shes a doll we have had her for about 3 yrs.

I adopted "Chick" a little over a week ago now. She is a 3 yr. old retired racer. I already had two cats and was a little hesitant. We found each other by accident at a local Animal Shelter. She is truly the love of my life, more affection than one person can handle. I have one problem with Chick. She is destructive when left alone. I have to crate her when I go to work. It breaks my heart to do this to her, she pouts tremendously, won't even take a treat from me after she's in the crate. She is already housebroken after just a week so I know she is incredibly intelligent. Do you think she will grow out of this destructiveness? She destroyed my bedspread and sheets today. Not her fault bless her heart, I didn't latch the crate door far enough.
Anyone who is thinking of adopting a grey could'nt find a more affectionate friend.
