We've had our Miss Molly for almost a year now and I don't know how we ever lived without her. Her affection is never-ending and unconditional. The site of her bounding into a room to greet me is joyous! If you have a grey, cherish your dog!

We adopted a gorgeous red-fawn/white male a year ago. What an incredible dog. I wish I had known how wonderful these guys are earlier. We had a problem with growling especially if his hind quarter got touched or bumped. He's better now. If growled when he was on the bed we would tell him no and make him leave the bed. He is better now. Any suggestions and any one experience this and know why it happens?

Found your web-site today and it is very informative. I've been thinking about adopting a greyhound for about a year now and I think you have made up my mind for me. My only concern is how a greyhound would get along with 2 cats (they are couch potatoes too!) My cats were raised by a dog and they got along wonderfully. Any feedback would be appreciated.

My husband and I adopted a greyhound from a local humane society. She was not quite 2 when we got her and we were told that she had never been a racer but didn't know any more about her background. She is very small for a greyhound--40lbs and 19 inches tall. So we think that perhaps she was a runt and not fit for racing. Anyway, she has provided us with endless entertainment, and logged in a lot of time on the couch. She is also very interested in eating dirt, and I was wondering if this is common to the breed, and if anyone has suggestions for curbing this behavior. When I tell her to stop it, it only seems to make her want to eat more dirt! Thanks for any suggestions you may have!

I adopted a retired greyhound in 1988. Pooh Bear is now 10 1/2 years old and a much loved member of our family. It was rough going at first since I had a small child at the time of his adoption, but all has worked out beautifully. Feel free to conta ct me with questions on easing your greyhound into a family.

I am interested in adopting a greyhound, however, my husband & myself are involved in the SCA(Society for Creative Anachristim, a medieval/rennanasance re-enactive group. They have within the past three years have added coursing of hounds to the activities that are allowed. My question is would I still be eligable to adopt a greyhound if I wish to participate tn the activities of coursing? Thanks! Paula

Living on the north shore of Lake Tahoe in California, I fear the winter temperatures, ice and snow would not be a condusive atmosphere for a greyhound, even though our dogs (Lab & Border Terrier live in the house most of the tiem). What do you think? Anyone have any experience with greyhounds in the alpine climates?

So new I havn't been able to find it,is a book by a PhD that has a lot of helpful stuff about caring for your new friend. I don't remembe r the title but know it retails for about $6.95. We have 2 wonderful greyhounds - Cairo is a 4.5 yr old fawn brindle female we adopted in Apr'95 and in Aug'96 we adopted a black male called Lucky (he will be 5 in Feb'97) We also belong to Greyhound REscue & Adoptions of Tampa bay - GREAT for short. Ken and I will be relocating to the Phoenix area in spring'97 so we would like some info on greyhound rescue groups in the area. Maybe Lou & Star of Mesa (entry 11/5/96) can contact us.

I just found greyhound site. What a wonderful place. We adopted Scott 2 years ago. He is the most incredible dog I've ever seen. He can be a clown, an annoyance, and an affectionate companion. We love taking him out, and he loves to ride in the "C.A.R.". NGAP has been a tremendous source of information for us and helped us with a rocky start. Keep up the good work, we'll be checking in often to see what's new.

Hello, I took a logo to use in the WBS pet chat room, I hope I am doing this right. I have a greyhound almost 3 years and feel she is awesome, it is a shame that we (hubby and I) did not know what wonderful animals they are years ago. In pet chat I am asked many questions about them but a frequently asked question is, "how is the greyhound with children"? My brother has 2 and all the dogs are wonderful with 4 yr. old grandchild. If I am not supposed to use logo please e-mail me. Thank you. Karen

Our family adopted a handsome, loving fawn greyhound named Jimbo nearly one year ago. He was five years old at the time and had been sent back to his original foster home after living with a family for an entire year because they didn't want a dog any more -- their teenagers didn't want to care for this dear, gentle animal and the parents wanted to be free to travel. He was confused about going back to his foster family again and needed a loving family that would appreciate him -- and that was us! We also have a 22 lb shaggy poodle named Chipper and the two of them get along great. It has been amazing to watch Jimbo's personality develop and express itself over this past year as he has learned to trust us and received an abundance of love. We are c razy about him and enjoy having two dogs. Greyhounds certainly are awesome creatures, and I know that we will never be without one.

I adopted a beautiful brindle greyhound (Gracie) on Memorial Day, 1994. I should say, Gracie adopted US! She decided Maxwell (my German Shepard Mix) and I would be her new family. I love her dearly, but for some reason she is terribly frightened of most people. I had no idea until after we got her home. In two years she has only allowed 4 or 5 people to pet her. I suspect she was abused at the race tracks and is still afraid to trust other people. In any case, I am delighted she decided to trust me and Max.

We adopted Shalaka Kid one year ago. He's a large, gentle brindle who broke his leg on the 4th of July in 1995. We went to visit the adoption center in Delavan, WI to drop off some pictures of him this Memorial Day and were introduced to a very shy 2 year old red and white ticked female. It was love at first sight. Though she'd been adopted out twice before and returned, and she was terrified of men we brought her home. She's not afraid of anyone now and can be a terror in the house but we wouldn 't trade her for anything. Poor Prophet had been through Heart Worm and 2 previous homes and she shows how grateful she is constantly. We have 2 cats too and all 4 sleep together. I wish we had room for more. My relatives call the two "dog like creat ures". (as a compliment, as they are far too intelligent to be common dogs) Some advice to future adopters; please set aside some time to bond with your new greyhound. They are attention starved and will return the love you give them ten-fold.

I have 2 wonderful greyhounds their names are Ava (age 2) & Andy (age 3). My husband and I adopted them from a track in Florida. They are the best dogs we have ever had, they are soooo sweet and intelligent. Here in Maryland we work with a Greyhound rescue group if anyone is interested in adopting a greyhound please e-mail us at Grynd3384@aol.com.

Great page! We're new on the net, but have had our greyhound Bogey for 5 years. He's 10 now and is doing very well. He's never met a stranger and is an excellent ambassador for ex-racer adoptions. I definitely recommend anyone considering adoption to see these dogs up close. Once you do you'll be hooked!

We've adopted Miss Phoebe who is an absolute delight. She became one of the family six months ago. She's playful and friendly, but quiets down when the family settles in at night. She's been such a positive addition to our family that we're looking f orward to getting a second Greyhound.

Greetings to everyone from my greyhounds Niki and Noora and whippet Nuppu from Finland, Europe. My greyhounds are not retired, they enjoy racing, they live at home as family members and they all sleep in my bed. As a volunteer worker I try to find adoption homes for different breeds of dogs.

I have been blessed with two beautiful greyhounds that I adopted at the Daytona Beach Kennel Club. Their names are AVA and ANDY. They mean the world to my wife and I. Greyhounds are the most sophisticated and glamour breed in the world. They are in a class by themself.

Hi! My name is Danielle and I am 15 years old. I have loved greyhounds since I was little, even though I've never seen one in person. I wish I could adopt one, but it would be one that needs a home. I already have 2 small dogs, but one's my sister' s and the other is mine. They are rat terriers, but I want a greyhound more than anything in the world. My mom probably wouldn't let me though. She would probably say that they cost too much, but I want to know how much it would cost to adopt one. I w orked last summer and bought my dog, so I could try to save up for a greyhound, if they didn't cost too much. My mom probably wouldn't let me have one now, but I can ask, since I don't know what I want for Christmas. If I don't get one now, trust me, I will adopt one when I'm in my 20's! I LOVE GREYHOUNDS!!!

Dear Friends of Greyhounds. My husband and have been thinking about adopting a grehound for a couple of years now, ever since we saw a story about their plight on 20/20. We are now ready and want to know where to start and what the procedures are. W e have no real children and all of our dogs are treated like our children. We have 3 guarters of an acre that is fenced and our dogs go in and out of the doggie door when we are not at home. THanks for providign this service thanks most of all for savin g greyhounds.
