Hello from Wyoming. What a wonderful web page. I have shared my life for 8 years with a wonderful great dane/greyhound cross. We will adopt a grey as soon as we are approved. I can hardly wait to take that lovely face in my hands and stroke that slim head. Thaks for all you do to help these wonderful creatures. Doris

I adopted a Greyhound from Homes for Greyhounds in Richmond, Ky. Her name is Amanda & she is WONDERFUL!!! If only folks that love dogs would adopt one. They would find the most elegant, loving pet in the World. I want another one. They make excellent house dogs & my Amanda is truly 1 of the most intelligent dogs I have ever known. Wish everybody had one that loves dogs.

Aren't greyhounds a wonderful thing? I haven't been without one for about 14 years! I have gone through many deaths, but I'm always very grateful that I was able to share at least a few years with my wonderful greys who have passed on. Right now my life is completely dedicated to JoJo, Roxie, Scarlet, Zeus, Chela, Louie, Charlie, Lily & Fly. 9 greyhounds & I can't imagine being without any of them! Keep up the good work... As I came across your sight and opened it my heart stopped and tears began again. the reason being that on the lower left of the page was a picture of our Miss Lightning Kelley. You see we just had to have her put to sleep about an hour ago. We were very fortunate to have had her for five plus years. We have another male "Double Whammy" beter known as Mr. Lucky. Great sight but there seems to be a lack of comments in TN. Would like to let everyone know a group of Greyhound lovers have just started GPA-Tennessee Chapter in Knoxville and we are very excited. We of course will follow all the GPA guidelines and be non-profit. Our goal is to educate, save, and match these wonderful Greyhounds with their new homes. We will also be in the Nashville area soon and are placing one in Johnson City this week, so if anyone would like more info on us, our fosters, becoming a part of our new dedicated group, or just need other Greyhound moms & dads in the area to talk with or meet with all you need to do is contact tmarshal@conc.tds.net or myself. We love to talk about our babies. We have active members in Clinton, Oneida, Sunbright, Powell, Knoxville, Maryville and soon Johnson City. Hope to hear from you!

Thanks for such a wonderful website - it answered many questions I had about my newly adopted greyhound. I had to laugh about how you have to teach the to hold a rawhide. I did have to do this a couple of times before she got the hang of it prior to reading it in here. How true!! I have never loved anything more than my greyhound. They are wonderful animals. I have and will continue to tell others about your site.

Hi, from Oyster Bay, N.Y.: The subject of seizures was brought up by a letter by Babs. My greyhound, a now 6 yr. old female, had what I would call an incident earlier this year. She woke up from a nap in the shade, walked a bit un-coordinated, stood when I talked to her, and seemed to be "out of it" for about a minute. Could this have been a seizure of sorts? My friend and I both witnessed this - and thought she might have pinched a nerve while sleeping, (As you know 'hounds look "broken" some of the time while sleeping) and took a minute to get her bearings. It has not happened again while I was with the dog. Since it did not occur again I had nothing to take to the vet.

I adopted a greyhound last spring and she is the best dog I have ever had. She has had two seizures since I got her and I am a little worried. The people at the vet school here say that since she doesn't have them all the time, there is not much that they can do. Are seizures a breed characteristic of greyhounds? Can anyone point me in the right direction to get some information on this? Thanks

Sierra Snowbird ("SeeSee")has owned my family for five glorious years, and has recently agreed to share us with Roka's Deja Blues ("Roxy"), a two-year-old upstart with an "attitude"--but the funniest dog in the world. I just discovered your wonderful website and thank you from the bottom of my heart for the terrific work you're doing. My husband, two teenaged daughters and I highly recommend these precious creatures to anyone who can give them the love and attention they so richly deserve. We will never again be without a grey in our lives. Thank you so much for sharing this vast storehouse of knowledge about these sweeties. You're doing them--and those who will soon be owned by them--a remarkable service! Kudos!

What a wonderful site. I have a seven year old gentle, untypical, and best of the breed--so the vet says--Samoyed. She gets lonely when I have to go to work. I have a fenced in back yard- 5 feet high. Would a greyhound get along with my girl? Would the fence be high enough? I never leave the dog out when I am gone. I think she needs a companion.

I adopted my greyhound omar in june of 1998. He is my first grey but he will not be the last as I am going to adopt another when I retire in 4 years.I always laugh when I see that goofy greyhound grin. His two playmates are a dachshound and a cocker/schnauzer mix. There is nothing funnier than seeing them try to keep up with Omar when he is racing around the yard. You havent lived until you have added a greyhound to your life. They truly are a joy.

A question about older dogs: Our big boy recently started wetting in the house at unpredictable times. No apparently bladder infection, maybe kidney involvement? He's on antibiotics now, and recommended for a geriatric diet. Is there affordable low protein dry food on the market suitable for him? Is there something we haven't thought of in terms of treating him? Thanks. Once we get this cleared up, we're in the market for a companion for him, but I want to make sure he's OK first.

Hey, Can you help? I used to be a volunteer for the Gate Club Greyhound Adoption in Wichita, Ks before they disbanded. I have been happily fostering three greys(on top of the four I've already adopted). However much to my dismay the city of Maizewhere I reside has elected new city officials and are cracking down on the animal control laws. I now find myself in legal trouble over my foster children. I have fought the city the best I can but I have lost. I have to find placement for my kids before Nov. 16th or they are going to take them from me. I cannot bear the thought of them ending up in a pound or the wrong hands. I have exhausted my resources locally and now I'm reaching out to you. normally the Wichita Greyhound Park Adoption would help but they too are under new management and over capacity. They can't help me now. The ones I have for adoption are I B Vindicator(5yr. blue brindle male) RD's Annie(3yr. black female)and Billtrotterstaff (5yr. black male). any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated...my time is runnning out!

My husband and I came upon a table at the Asheville Mall and spoke with the people there. They were very informative and answered our questions on possibly adopting a greyhound. The women we talked to was out of Greensboro, NC and is close enough for us to go and see the dog "Moose" that we are considering adopting. Any and all information that we could receive would help a great deal to be sure we are ready and prepared to take on this responsibility. It would hurt me more for an animal not to be properly cared for than for one to be euthanized

I saw the Martha Stewart segment this morning. I have been thinking about greyhound adoption for a few years, but have never really known where to begin. If I can convince my husband to do so, I will be looking into it more seriously in the near future. They are gorgeous animals and seem to be very sweet. A lady we bought a pot-bellied pig from had one, and it was a sweetheart. (Yes, we still have the pig. That would probably be quite a shock for the poor dog!)

I just saw the wonderful segment on Martha Stewart's show today. Your dogs are beautiful, and I'm going to remember them when my husband and I finally get a house and can have the room for a dog. My mom has been an animal rescuer my whole life, so I understand the need to help save these wonderful dogs after they've worked for humans for such a short time. It has taken this long to accept that he is gone and I would like to share my home with several greyhounds in the future-however at this time I'm devoting all my time to the old timer in our house-is there any way to "adopt" a greyhound like you do the yellowstone wolves and manatees? I would love to be apart of a greyhound or two's life until I can be blessed again. Thanks

I am very interested in adopting a greyhound. I became interested when I learned of the plight of retired greyhounds. I believe these animals deserve to be companions to people that could love them and respect them. I have learned they are lovable and seek to please. My children are grown, but we have two wonderful granddaughters that spend a great deal of time at our home. I have heard that they try to place dogs in homes that they can become adaptable to, and that greyhounds love children. I have also got two lovable siamese cats that have been around other animals and adapt well to new situations and they would love a new friend.

Found your site whilst browsing in my local library (we don't have our own computer - yet!) We adopted 2 adorable greyhounds earlier this year. Lily is nearly 3 and was in a pathetic state when she was handed in to our local rescue centre in February - she was underweight, with virtually no coat and covered in fleabites and dermatitis. She had also just been spayed the day before we met her so she was in a pretty sorry state. We only ever intended to take her for a short walk to help them out at the rescue centre - but despite her sad state it was 'love at first sight' for us. We expressed our interest in adopting her and once the formalities had been completed (our home was visited by the staff from the rescue centre) we were able to bring her home. Within the month we had decided that she needed a companion - so we went back to the centre and were introduced to Bess who is 7 years old (almost 4 of those years had been spent in the rescue centre). Our 2 'girls' have settled down beautifully and are the most ADORABLE companions - gentle and loving. I could go on but sadly my time has expired. Hope to visit your site again soon.

My husband and I have spent years searching for the perfect companion for our family. Until two years ago, we were inclined to settle for the not-so-perfect dog. Then we adpted Ava from Council Bluffs,Iowa and I am here to tell you all that our search was over! She is the most loving, even-tempered, loyal, intellegent and beautiful spirited dog I have ever known. Tonight, after two years we are adopting another retired racer named Sam. Now Ava will have a member of her own breed to share her family with. Anyone wanting a dog tha is perfect should definatly consider the retired racing greyhound!!! Think about it--- it is sick and selfis to buy puppies of whatever breed knowing that these greyhounds were bred to please us, but that perhaps they were to slow to make somebody money or they were injured in some way and that death is their inevitble future. We own a greyhound and God willing, tonight we will own two---- how lucky we are!!!!

I am currently living overseas due to the Military but plan to return home 6/00. My home is in Iowa. I was raised with dogs and come from a family of pet lovers. I recently saw a show on Animal Planet about Grayhounds, and that just pushed me over the edge. I would like to do all that I can to help them. I, too, became better acquainted with greyhounds because of the Martha Stewart Show. I particularly like the vet., Dr. Mark Marone(sp.?). I would like to adopt a greyhound, but I would like to adopt before the weather gets really cold. I have contacted LIGHT. When greyhound organizations visit locations, do they bring greyhounds with them? Do retired greyhounds live in "foster homes" before they're adopted? Keep up the good work!

I got the information about your website from the Martha Stewart Living TV program. My husband and I looked over the information provided on your website (tour, erc.) and we feel we would like to know more about adopting a greyhound. We were wondering what fees or costs would be involved in this venture. We are limited in our financial resources, so this is a concern to us. Also, where is the closest location to our home in Wharton, NJ? Do we have the option of choosing male or female? Do we have the option of choosing color/markings, etc.? Are these dogs checked for general health, disease etc. before we adopt? This is our first experience with anything like this. We would like to find out all we can before making such a large and life-changing decision. Thank you for your help and patience. Lori deuser

I have owned a greyhound for eight years-they are the most wonderful companions anyone could ever have. They are gentle, loving, and do not take up much room-just give them a soft spot and alot of love and they will never leave your side. My buddy Jet has a very serious medical problem and will not be with me for too much longer however he never complains. If you are considering a pet-pick a greyhound-you will never be sorry.

My family has had a retired greyhound for 3yrs now. We aquired her through a friend. We have five children and wanted a good family pet. Her personality is better than other breed we have come across; she is wonderful with them. When they get hurt it is almost as if she goes to the children to comfort them. We heard of a smaller breed of greyhound and would like to adopt one. Can anyone help? P.S. Just a note-Our greyhound "Pretty" has convinced us that greyhounds are the best family addition.
