My name is
Christine and I have been surfing the NET for all of 2
days. The first item I searched for was for a Web Page on
Greyhounds. I was amazed and pleasantly surprised to find
that there was so much interesting information on these
wonderful dogs and the organizations that help place them.
Well, enough about me. Last year, September 28th to be
exact, my boyfriend Gary and I came home with a beautiful
4 yr. old brindle/white female Greyhound called Kayleigh.
I am a volunteer at the Montreal chapter of Greyhound
Rescue. I was told that after having met and spent some
time with ex-racing greyhounds that were up for adoption,
that I would most probably adopt a greyhound myself.
Well, I didn't give this much thought because I was not ready
to take a dog in at that point in time anyways. Six
months into my volunteer work, Kayleigh (a.k.a. Kerry)
showed up in Montreal. She had come from Vermont
Greyhound Rescue and I fell in love (no offense to my boyfriend).
As a matter of fact, my boyfriend, Gary, fell in love
with her as well (no offense taken). Her cute little pointy
nose, intelligent eyes, streamlined look, we just
couldn't resist. Kayleigh adjusted very quickly to home
life. A few accidents on the carpet in the first couple
of days but nothing serious. She adopted the couch very
quickly as well as her 2 cozy beds (not to mention OUR bed
which she crawls into every morning). I have nothing but
great things to say about this breed and if one can truly
"fall in love" with a dog, well we definitely did
that. Kayleigh gets her daily exercice at a fenced-in dog
run which was open in my area last year. Among many, many
other breeds that frequent this run, there is another
greyhound Called Champ and his companion Priscilla (a
whippet). Fun is had by all, dogs and owners alike. On
behalf of myself, Gary and Kayleigh and all of the lucky
greyhounds who finally got to go home, we would like to thank
all of the organizations that place these wonderful
animals and enrich our lives by doing so!
