Am retired and now widowed. I want some loving company and the Greyhound seems the ideal pet for our long winter evenings and summer sun.
A good site that gives me the wants. We should make a good retired couple.

Thanks for a wonderful site. I have just spent a couple of hours going through it. We have 3 cats and a German Shepher/Coyote mix (a wonderful dog) and would like a buddy for her. The cats are tired of being surrogate dogs! We are looking seriously at adopting a Greyhound since we have heard nothing but good reports from friends who have them. We are a little concerned about how a Greyhound would fit into a family of three cats. I presume there are many Greyhound/cat success stories out there, but haven't personally heard of any.

We have 3 great greyhounds all very special all are therapy dogs and we work with different groups and nursing homes. The pleasure that we have received since adopting are too numerous to think of and too great to explain.we also have 1 alaskan sled dog that is more wolf than not and his pack is all and every greyhound he meets. May you all enjoy the pleasures and joys we have with the greyhounds.

I got my first GH last year ,"Willow",and this year I adopted a brother for her, "Austin". She had a tough time trying to adjust to being an only dog, and the problems I had with her instantly disappered with his arrival.Altough he dosen't like to run enough for her taste, she would go until tired, rest a while and go again. But she does get him to run a little bit, and they have gotten along great. I have been trying to find their complete race records with no luck. I have tried Rosnet, and Track Data never responded to my E-mail. I tried twice to contact a guest book entry from this week, but both were returned (glen@emporium.on.ca).If Dorothy reads this, would you please foward your sourse for race records to me. If anyone has any suggestions I would like those also. Thanks

Adopted Lookie this May. My home became way too quiet after my husband passed away. What a joy she is! We just
traveled 3100 miles to Wilmington NC and back to visit my Dad. Guess who turned heads in the lobby of the Hilton Hotel? Dad was never an "animal person." Guess who was
allowed on the sofa and bed? Can this be the same man---?!

Just thought I'd check out your site and really enjoyed it. Adopted my first Greyhound Milo over 5 years ago, he just turned 9 last week. Adopted a female Kaelyn just a couple of months ago, she is 3 1/2. They live with 5 indoor cats and it is amazing how well they get along. Thought about adopting for a long time, was always discouraged because I have cats. Adoption agency that I used "screens" dogs for temperament and "cat compability". Introduce dogs with some precautions and you have a good chance they are not going to be like "cat & dog". Can not imagine not having these guys around, they are so special.Probably sounds familiar to a lot of Greyhound owners...

First of all, I would like to say this is a GREYT web site. My husband and I adopted a grey through Michigan Greyhound Connection (1-800-398-4D0G - www.ddc.com/rescue/mgc) about 6 years ago. Our dog, Bucky is the most precious dog we have both ever had and it feels good to be a part of helping the greyhounds. Over the years we have gotten more involved with our organization and I write some articles for our newsletter. We are excited to also be a part of the Michigan Renaissance Festival two years in a row!
As an answer to Marion regarding greyhounds and small children, some organizations will not allow greyhounds to be adopted into a family with children under 5. However, if your child is well behaved, I don't see a problem. We have a disabled 11 year old boy and a 7 1/2 year old boy that Bucky is wonderful with. He just loves them. So it all just depends. Of course, all greyhounds have different personalities, so you need to find one suited to you. Good Luck.

I share my home with a beautiful greyhound named Viper. Viper is 9 years old. Recently our vet discovered a mass on his hip, we are not sure if it is cancer or not without a very complicated biopsy. This was about 8-9 weeks ago. Viper seems to be ok just real slow rising and has adapted his walk, run and bounce to accommodate the leg. We have him on remidel(?). My question is that we are moving out of state next week and he cannot jump up into the vehicle any more. Viper is a large male, around 89-90lbs. Does anyone have any suggestions regarding a ramp or such to accommodate this trip?? I can lift him out but not in. Thanks!

Have seen several shows on adopting Greyhound Dogs. I am really interested in adopting one of these beautiful dogs that so deserves a good home. My husband, I, and our female GSD would welcome and honor the priviledge to share our home with a dog that needs us! Thanks for a wonderful site on the net. Very informative.

I have marked this site in "favorites" as I plan to come back often. As soon as possible, after moving in with my Mom so that we'll have a house, I plan on adopting a greyhound!! I live in Rockville, Md. I first got to meet and know about greyhounds at Towsons town fair.

My family's home is shared with 3 beautiful greyhounds, Ginger, Hank, and Eve. All are wonderful and mean more to us than any pet probably should. My question is related to the onset of idiopathic epilepsy in Ginger's life. She turned 6 years old in July and has suffered 3 grand mal or generalized seizures in the last 3 weeks and prior to that was not affected. She is on 1.5 gm of phenobarbitol twice a day and has not had any more seizures that were aware of. My questions are these: 1) has any data been collected on the incidence of seizure disorders in ex-racers? and 2) would a grey hound have sensitivities to antiseizure meds that normally are tolerated well by other breeds as they do with certain anesthesia meds? We are praying that Ginger will continue to live a long and happy life and if others have shared this experience I would appreciate any info they can give. Thank You
