Haven't written since last November. Received a response from someone asking if our Prophet was one of "Betty's Girls" ; when I tried to answer my entire operating system went "bye, bye". (took 3 months to get things back to normal) So... yes Prophet is one of Betty's Girls. Last winter was very interesting. We thought all greyhounds were cold sensitive. Kid, our first adoptee hates going outside in any inclement weather. With Prophet anything goes except thunder. She loves the cold and snow. Since she's mostly white we lose her in the snow. We call and call and finally tramp out only to find her laying in a snowbank soaking up some rays. She 's especially fond of mud and water too. Smart dog; she knows if she gets muddy she'll probably get to play in the water next. Anyway they're greyt! For those of you new to this site we have Kid, red brindle - age 6 and Prophet, red & white tick - age 3. Also 2 cats and 3 children. Full house! We have learned that the hounds are wonderful with children when awake. But like any other animal they don't like to be poked, prodded or awakened suddenly. When neices and nephews come to visit we kennel our two for their own protection. They know and appreciate it. Thanks for the greyt site!

Thanks for a wonderful site. I have heard about this program through various media blurbs, and was excited to see this site. When strays stop wandering into my yard looking for homes, I will definitely be looking into one of your greyhounds. But until then, I guess I'm doing my bit for dogs taking these guys in. Again, many thanks for the wonderful site. May the word spread!

I CAN'T SAY ENOUGH ABOUT GREYHOUNDS. THEY ARE THE MOST LOVING, GIVING ANIMALS ALIVE. I ONLY WISH I COULD DO MORE TO HELP THESE BEAUTIFUL CREATURES. I HAVE 3 WONDERFUL GREYHOUNDS. IOWA, CLYDE AND FEATHER. THEY ARE A VERY IMPORTANT PART OF OUR FAMILY. WE ALSO FOSTER GREYHOUNDS WAITING FOR NEW FAMILYS FOR GREYHOUND COMPANIONS OF MISSOURI. THIS IN ITSELF IS VERY FULFILLING. NOT ONLY DO WE GET TO HAVE MORE GREYHOUNDS AROUND THE HOUSE, WE GET TO TEACH THEM AND WATCH THE PERSONALITIES THAT HAVE BEEN STIFLED BEGIN TO EMERGE. IT'S LIKE WATCHING A BABY LEARN TO TALK AND WALK!! OUR FAMILY WILL ALWAYS OPEN OUR DOORS TO THESE LOVING ANIMALS AND WE WILL CONTINUE TO SUPPORT THE EFFORTS OF GREYHOUND COMPANIONS RESCUE ORGANIZATION.

We have had five greyhounds during the last 6 1/2 years. We lost our fawn brindle "Goodtime Dancer" to a green stick break of her right front leg February 1996. She had a series of strokes and her back legs could not support her. We had to put her down. Her sister from the same track, "Nyoki" lost her battle to lymphoma just four months later (June 1996). We had adopted them from Greyhound Pets of America, Richmond, VA. We were in Jacksonville, FL, in November 1995 and found "Back Packin" waiting to move to a colder state. So we brought our first male home to Virginia. After losing Dancer, Nyoki needed another sister, so we called Shirley at Greyhounds as Pets and adopted "Milo Sparkle" over the phone. But - as luck would have it, Shirley told us about a large, boxy long furred "Tasks Willard Was". You know the rest. Sparkle and Willard came home to replace Dancer. With three greyhounds in the house there is little room for anyone else and no time for anything but greyhounds. We feel another trip to Florida coming on. Hope Shirley has another female ready to leave. We have enjoyed our greyhounds and would not think of owning another type of dog. We have even bought a van to haul them along on vacations, PetSmart Trips, and joy riding. Our license plates say it all " GR8HNDS". We have also collected evey statue, painting, ceramicware, cross stitch, mouse pads, etc. available. We found your site by surfing the net. Keep up all the good work in placing these amazing friends.

I have been thinking of adding a greyhound to my family. I currently am owned by an Austalian calttle dog. I have been looking into adopting a greyhound for at least 6 years. I have just purchased my first home outside of Atlanta Ga. I have heard there is a race track outside of Birmingham Ala. where I could adopt a greyhound. I would like more info on the track in Bimbingham

We have two greys - both 4 years old, Wendy and P.C. (track name, short for Priority Class) and a 5 year old male Rottie who seems to tolerate their excessive energy and playfulness. We just got P.C. two weeks ago from a local vet that used her as a blood donor (it is very common for animal hospitals to keep a greyhound on site as most of them have universal blood type which is used to transfuse other dogs). P.C. is a barker, she has also took over the house and sets the pace for the other two. It took her only a couple days to adjust to her new home. She lived at the vet for four months, so she was pretty well socialized. Wendy has been with us for 8 months - it took her a solid 3 months to settle down. She was extremely skittish. Now that we have a "pack", I'm trying to figure out what the pecking order is!! Greyhounds are beautiful creatures, it's so gratifying to see that "thankful" look on their face and how much they love to be loved.

I need some advice. Amanda, our six and one half year old greyhound, was running and chasing our two year old collie. The dog were having a great time when Amanda started running full speed in large circles around us (this is not unusual for her to do). However, at the end of the run she stopped and was holding up her left hind leg. She whimpered a little when I rubbed it. She started walk with a limp but after a few steps seemed to walk normally (although some what more slowly than normal). This morning when she got up the leg seemed to be very stiff, and again took her several steps to walk normal. She dose not seem bad enough to take to the vet (although she is a very stoical dog). Can anyone advise me on what I should b e doing for her.

My wife just found this site and told me about it. I think it's really well done. As you know now, we adopted Braddock our loveable black Greyhound, and he's great. I want to let all the Greyhound Agency's out there know that I wrote a nice software package specifically designed to aid Adoption Agency's track all their puppies. My husband & I just adopted the love of "our" life last week. We got Braddock from The National Greyhound Rescue Society in Hillsboro, TX. His registered name is Braddock's Gent and he is a black male with a white crest and white paws. When Jeff and I saw Braddock he had only been in his foster home for a week. He did so well we were able to get him just a week later. Braddock was REALLY skinny when we got him but he is slowly putting on more weight. Jeff and I feel so lucky to have Braddock. It almost feels like he was made for us.....Or more likely, we were made for him. It touches our hearts to see him so excited and literally "smile" when we come home. We already considering extending our family in a couple of months.

Phoenix is my first greyhound, a black boy with white markings and a very sweet gentle disposition. He will not even chase squirrels when I take my pack down to the American River. Lotus is my red fawn girl, a lively and outgoing sweetie. They like to play with Dakota a fluffy 95 lb. bear (Australian Shepard & Rottweiler) by chasing her around and jumping on her. We are the hunters you are the prey is their favorite sport with her. Phoenix just turned 8 years old, I've had him si nce he was 18 mos. Lotus will be 9 in November, a racer retired at 4 1/2 when I got her. She acts like she is not a day over 2. They are the sweetest and kindest dogs I have ever had. Everyone should experience the joy of greyhound companionship.

I adopted a greyhound last October. I already had a dalmation and two older cats. I have been thrilled to see Lemmer learn all about living in a house. His first TV show was Oprah! He is still quite interested in TV. Dottie, my dalmation has been helping Lemmer learn how to play and have a good time. Lemmer even has a girlfriend who lives down the street. He enjoys playing with her - I think he must know that she is a greyhound too. Greyhounds are wonderful pets/children! Everyone should have at least one.

Cicero has been my constant scooby-doo boy since Feb. 13, 1996.. He was adopted from West Memphis and has since adjusted to a move to New Orleans just over a year ago. I wear a lot of hats and have a large collection. When he m isses me or gets upset with me, he simply eats a hat and needlesstosay, I respond with some QUALITY time. He is also very protective of me which is a comfort since I live in the Crime Capital of the south. He also likes to be chased around the yard. He loves cheeseburgers too! His full NEW name is Narcissero Magnus de la casa yaya and it's a lot better than his race name which was Slouchin, hardly a name worth such a grand animal!!!!!! He is 4 years old and he is a peach brindle weighing in at 80+ pounds! We were truly meant for eachother!!!!!

Thank you for such a wonderful page. I have adopted two dogs from the humane society. I love dogs. These are not only my best friends, but they are my family too. My children and grandchildren share my love for these pets and th ey have dogs for pets too. If I had a farm with room for dogs to run and play, I would have many more. Both of my friends sat on my lap when I come home from work. They greet me at the door and put their arms around me and squeeze tight while they smot her me with kisses. I repay their love by having regular vet visits, teeth cleaning, and cooked meat mixed with their dog food everyday. I take them on vacation with me. They love to run on the beach. If you look for places to take pets you will find them. Good luck to you with the finding and placing these sweet dependent pets in good homes. If I get the opportunity to be able to provide for another pet, I will be adopting a greyhound through you. Keep up the great work of giving life to our four legged friends that give so

I first became interested in Greyhounds by watching a TV show on "Animal Planet" a cable channel that I recieve at the State University of New York at Potsdam. The combination of the show and some friends who are adopting has encou raged me to research Greyhounds and the adoption process. I love the site it has given me a lot of additional information that I did not get from the books that I have read. I am looking for more information on the Adoption Process. After researching G reyhounds I am ready to give all the care I can to an adopted Greyhound, Where do I sign up!!! I am looking for information on who to contact for the closest adoption center to Northern New York. This web site has excited me even further than before. Very imformative web site! We have been considering adopting a greyhound for several years now. We will be moving into a house in about 4 months and I am more anxious than ever to own one of these beautiful and loving animals. The information available in this web site has been helpful, but I do have some concerns I need to address. (1) I do have a 12 year old cat and understand that there may be a problem with grey hound co-habitating with my cat. Would male or female dog be preferrable in this case? Is there a way to find out ahead of time if a particular dog will be able to get along with my cat? (2) My fiance and I both work full-time. Would there b e a problem if the dog had to be in the house for 8 hours straight? Could this affect our chances of successfully adopting a greyhound? Thank you for your time and for providing such a thorough and informative web site. I am looking forward to the prospect of welcoming a greyhound into my home in the near future.

Really wonderful site. I shocked myself with how long I stayed to look around. I have two wonderful greys. A ten year old Lucy, a white ticked female who raced her heart out in Conneticut and Vinnie, my new baby boy. 3 years old and a genuine head case. He's from Daytona and I brought him back directly from the track. We are doing our best to socialize this gorgeous brindle. To say he is a challenge would be the understatement of the year!! I look forward to the day when Vinnie and my two teenage boys can be in the same room. Something real bad happened to Vinnie, besides being hit by lightning while in the starting gate. There is some ugly stuff there having to do with young men. Daily, Vinnie does abit better. This month we'll attemp obedience training so he will begin to feel more secure with other humans. He's totally dependent on me and when I'm not in his direct sight, he freaks out until he finds me. The old girl has been very patient with him and only growls and cirrects him when absolutely necessary. Bringing the new guy into our home has been more difficult than I ever would have thought possible.

I adopted my 3 yr old fawn boy Duke on April 3, 1997. He has been nothing but fun. We spend endless hours watching him chew his "pet squirrel" or play with his ball. He is a very loud boy, who loves to bark and whine for no appare nt reason!! Duke is a great dog and a big attention getter!! People stop their cars to pet him when we are walking!! He loves to cuddle and soaks up all the attention he can get!! Unfortunately he is a big baby!! He is afraid of our kitchen and will not e ven go in it for a treat!! Even my 11 yr old mixed breed, Sugar loves Duke!! He has been nothing but a joy and I love him to death!!

I have thoroughly enjoyed browsing this site. My husband and I have just begun researching Greyhound adoption. A friend of ours has a retired greyhound and it's great! We really would like to adopt one ourselves. I saw someone else asked about electric fences. I too would like to know how Greyhounds do with them. My neighborhood prohibits "regular" fences for asthetic reasons, but anyone with a dog used an electric fence. I've not found any mention in this site to anyone using them. If anyone knows, please respond. Thanks!

MY WIFE AND ARE INTERESTED IN ADOPTING A DOG. FINDING THIS SIGHT HAS GIVEN US THE PEACE OF MIND TO GO THROUGH WITH IT. WE OWN A TORTOISE SHELL CAT THAT HAS A COAT RESEMBLING A DARK BRIDLED GREYHOUND. WE LIVE IN THE TAMPA BAY FL AREA AND WOULD LIKE TO PICK AN AGENCY TO ADOPT FROM. IF ANYONE IN THE CENTRAL FLORIDA AREA HAS HAD A GOOD EXPERIENCE FROM AN AGENCY AROUND HERE, PLEASE WRITE US. WE HOPE TO ADOPT BY THE END OF SUMMER AND HAVE JUST STARTED RESEARCHING. P.S. THIS SIGHT IS FANTASTIC AND I WILL SHARE IT WITH EVERYONE IN THE HOPE OF SAVING ALL RETIRED GREYHOUNDS.

I have a 3 yr old red fawn male named Bubba. He came to us in Feb. 1997. He is our first dog EVER. He joined 3 cats and 2 boys ages 4 and 12. We have just loved him, even my none animal lover husband.. We have a serious problem , however, and need some answers/advice SOON. The other day, Bubba was asleep and my 4 yr old either went to pet him or tripped over him, (not sure which), Bubba was apparently quite startled and my son. My boy had to have surgery to repair his eyelid and was VERY lucky he did not lose his eye. I want to keep the dog but will not do so unless I can think of a way to guarantee my children's safety, as they come first . His 10 day quarantine (@ our house ) will be over in about 6 days and we will need to make a decsion. Hope to here from you!!! I found this web site just today and LOVE it . I also love greyhounds!!

The only Greyhound I have is the coolest guy I know, nick-named Grayhound. I do have two dogs though, a lab mix and a beagle. I've looked over your pages and they do a very good job of promoting Greyhounds. They sound like fun an d extremly friendly dogs. I hope to eventually have a red brindled one of my own. (Adopted of course.) THANK YOU!!

Hi, everyone. We have adopted two Grey's. One from Miami, Fl and the second from Sheffield, England. They enjoy running together in the open field. Your websides seem to hold a lot of information, but it takes very long to get throu gh them. Many greetings from Germany to all of you.
