I am glad I came across your web site. My children and I adopted our 1st Greyhound about 1 month ago. Funny thing is we live about 10 miles from a track yet we found our dog while visiting family almost 400 miles away, and he is from our home area!! I am in the process of learning more about the breed and researching my dogs pedigree, etc. and your site will be very helpful. We might even be adopting another one soon to add to our menagerie at home, which is currently 1 Greyhound, 3 Miniature Pinschers (1 is pregnant), 2 Cats and a pond with Goldfish and Koi. Our Greyhound, Yukon Sterling, is great with all the other much smaller animals!! I was very surprised to learn just how calm, loving and gentle Greyhounds can be. Keep up your good work with your website.

My wife and I have been interested in adopting a greyhound for about a year now. Since we have a house, I have been looking hard to find information on the application process and the available adoption agencies. Thank you for providing an informative and great web page for a beautiful and loving pet!

I just wanted to say HI, and thanks for all the work you do to help these wonderful animals find homes. I had my first encounter with greyhounds at a local Fair and it was love at first sight. We are looking to adopt a dog about one year from now. Until then I'll learn all I can about the breed and their history. Thanks for helping me in my research.

You have a greyt site. Keep up the good work. I adopted my first grey last Nov., his name is Tim., got my 2nd. grey the 17th of this month..his name is Preston. They are like Lays Potato chips...you can't just have one. I also have a min-pin..shepherd mix..and they all get along really well. Anybody thinking about adopting a grey go for it...you won't be sorry. They give so much love in return and when you look into their eyes..you are hooked for life. Don't hesitate fill out the adoption papers and bring enjoyment into your life and at the same time you will be saving a grey.

We've done some online research and are considering adopting a greyhound but were wondering how well the breed can handle long and cold (Maine) winters. We'd never house the dog outdoors, but are curious about how well greyhounds can play outdoors and take walks during the winter time. Some Web sites briefly mention greyhounds' low bodyfat and that they should wear a coat in the cold, but none of the sites I've visted seem to address the cold weather issue in great detail. We live in western Maine and have two young kids who would love to play outdoors in the snow with their dog, but we're unsure if a greyhound would be able to go outside very long during our very cold winters (November-March). Any advice on this is greatly appreciated.

I adopted a female named Honey about 6 years ago from Bonita Springs Fla. actually two friends and myself were on vacation in Marco Island Fla. Kasey was interested in adopting a Greyhound so off to Second Chance For Greyhounds we went, where all three of us adopted a grey! Honey by the way is wonderful took her awhile to ajust but as they say she's quite the couch potato and bed partner now. Really wasn't sure how all this was going to turn out but it's been wonderful, really glad I gave it a try!I also have cats I had to watch her for awhile but now their one big happy family.

We adopted a greyhound several weeks ago and are so very glad we did. Anyone reading this - Cynthia Branigan's book "Adopting the Racing Greyhound" is the owners bible! Also, I recommend becoming a foster home first, before adopting. What a great way to "try out" these animals and at the same time, save a life for each animal who is your guest for a couple weeks! We have 5 cats (including one disabled) and he bonded instantly with them all !!!

We are still trying to teach her to sit which many say can not be done. You could not get a more sweeter, lovable, genltler kinder dog ever. if u give 100% love she gives back 150%. Hello: AN OPEN LETTER OF PRAISE TO ONE OF GOD'S GREATEST GIFTS: I have two wonderful Greyhounds, Sara and Cindy, and a great Whippet named Whisper. Plus a beautiful old Shepard named Shep and they all were homeless or adopted. I wish more folks knew of the plight of our Greyhounds across the globe, and especially here in the states. It's sad and very chilling to hear of the horror stories that have been an everyday thing for these glorious animals. Fortunately, I can tell you that these dogs, especially the two Greyhounds, are the one of the main reason's my wife and I smile everyday. Sara always smiles back too, plus our new baby, Cindy has a great appreciation of her new quite surroundings. Recently adopted from NGAP in Philly, Cindy was returned by another adopter the day we brought Sara in for dental surgery, and the two greyhounds looked and kisssed each other, and we knew we had to take Cindy home with us. What a beautiful bunch of dogs. Two bryndles, plus our 11 year old Whippet is bryndle... What can I say, but if you are considering a new pet, please,no wait a minute, PLEASE!!!!!! ADOPT A GREYHOUND TODAY!!! And if you can't adopt, let others know about the plight of these poor souls, who are still GOD's creations no matter what way the racing community wants to look at it. Also, if you have any extra money, or time, the various Greyhound agencies around the states need all the help you can give them. Nice things like walking and caring for the dogs, cleaning, feeding, clothing donations, rug/towel donations. Every little thing helps. If they were human,(I know deep down they are), they would all say thanks to you. GOD BLESS THE ANIMALS OF THIS WORLD

I just wanted to say what a great page you have here! We've had our Roxy (or rather she's had us!) for a year and a half now. I still can't believe the timid animal we 1st brought home is the same animal as this sweet, loving baby. I have been off work for the past year, and now my husband tells me I am not allowed to leave her for any period of time...she drives him crazy crying until I get home! But, she doesn't like him leaving either! I can't tell people enough about adopting greys, and anyone who meets her can't believe how gentle & friendly she is!
