Great site..useful, informative and very interesting.
Greyhounds are beautiful animals and make great pets.
Ours is called "Buster". He's a brindle and white. Thrown
out by his previous owner and left to wander the streets
alone. How can people be so cruel?
Best wishes in your work

We are 8-year old retired racing greyhounds, female and male. We have a great family with two kids and four cats. One of us, the female, has a mysterious medical condition right now, involving the right rear leg, specifically the knee. All vital signs normal. Blood work and joint taps, normal, except fluid on knee (no infection). Mom suggested Lyme's disease to the vets (including a specialist), but they poo-poohed her. Any help would be greatly appreciated because everyone, especially Mom, is worried. We are best friends and share our own couch in the daytime, and a heated blanket at night. Sometimes we get on Mom's waterbed, even though we're not supposed to ... Trillian and Thumper P.S. Cats are okay, but they're a little obnoxious!

Loved the website. I adopted a 3 year old red brindle last May. Love her to bits. I've found that they're very versatile dogs. She loves agility, SOME obedience, bicycling, canoeing and just hanging with her people. The only problem now is that I need another!! If you're looking for a great adoption program try Greyhound Pets of America out of Vancouver, B.C.

I really appreciate all the information I got from this website before I adopted "Glory", my 3 year old Brindle female. I fell in love with her the moment I saw her!!! I work in a nursing home and though she lives with me, she goes to work with me everyday and provides much enjoyment for the residents and staff. I adopted her in Pacific Junction, Iowa. I think the adoption program is wonderful!! She is the perfect pet!

I have a wonderful 7 year old Kate, for 3 years now, she is a Lurcher and we just adopted a cute little Italian Greyhound. I'm looking forward at least one or two more in the next year or so. I want so much to find a local agency to volunteer and go for meets. I'm a newby to my area. I love all the agencies and people helping to make a better life for these beautiful, compassionate greyhounds. Any email welcome!! Thanks.

Hey keep up the great work. Because of you I've adopted a
wonderful blue brindle castrated male. If any one can help my find
his sibblings I/we would be thankful. I would like to adopt
them also if possible. His left ear tatoo is 37675 right 44c.
I believe that he is from Kansas somewhere. Oh by the way
you forgot to tell me that they will steal the food right out of your
mouth if you let them. (LOL) And they are so smart!! My Rottie (Day-Z
also a rescue) and Wes (the Grey) the both of them have firgure out that if
one turns the door knob (Day-Z) and the other pushes the door (Wes) that they
can have free roam of the yard! Lucky for the fence! Wes has helped my son out
alot. We got him as a therapy dog for him. He did well in school but now he does so much better
he even wants to do his chores to earn money to buy his dog toys. I would really
like to find one of Wes' sibblings for my daughter also then it can be a brother
and sister team walking and talking about their Greys.
I really want to thank you for all the information that I
gathered from you web site. As a matter of fact I have so
much that I made a book of it. I will sometime in the near
future tak it to the print plant and have copies made to give
to the people that I adopted Wes from (Kansas State University
Vet School). Hopefully when the next person comes to adopt
they can pass the information on along with the pet as well.
Once again thanks alot for a great dog. He even barks at strangers
when they aaproach the door. The neighborhood kids call Wes & Day-Z
the tattle tales. They always bark when the kids are doing something wrong.
Like playing in the street, climbing the trees, playing to rough, or teasing each
other. What more can I ask for? (Forgive any typos he is trying to type also.)

I recently adopted two greyhounds ( Curry and Obsession). They were in pretty bad shape and have racked up a bill at the vet. They are both doing much better now and fit in well with our other dogs. The cats however are another story. Curry does fine but O.B. gets that look in her eyes. Any suggestions on breaking her of that? We love them and think of them as our kids!

Enjoy your site. We adopted two greyhounds from Greyhound Companions of Indiana, Inc. The first one in 9/96, Faye, now 7 yrs old. After her 17 yr old chihuahua sister died last year we adopted our second greyhound. Marina 5 yrs. old came to live with us 4/99. They are like book ends and are best buddies. We have no fenced yard and walk a lot (ON LEASH only). It still amazes me no matter where we go someone will stop and ask about them and want to pet them. They are beautiful to watch fun to own!

We recently added Jake, a red fawn 2 yr. old male to our family. He's been with us a month and is adjusting well. Erin, our 4 yr. old, brindle, female, is happy to have a brother to play with. Her other brother, Bear, a small lasa/pom mix, is a grumpy old man at 12 and won't play with the big dogs. Their only sister, Sassy, a very upity feline, doesn't play with anyone at anytime. I recently visited friends who have adopted two greyhounds. I felt so badly that I had such a negative preception of the dog. I fell in love with them. I am wondering if adopting a greyhound would be good for my husband and I. Our friends are strongly encouraging us. I am trying to obtain information about the various adoption agencies as well as learning more about the retired greyhound. We currently have a Norweign Elkhound that we adopted and he is approx. 50lbs. He is very friendly and loves to play with other animals. I think he needs a friend. We also have a cat that I have had since grad. school. He has lived with two other dogs. He seems to adapt well. I am hoping a greyhound may fit into our lives and lifestyle.

From one Grey owner to a perspective one, JUST DO IT! The people who write on this site obviously love their dogs, as we do ours. My only regret is that we do not have room for more. They are a wonderful, loving breed that only ask for love, and maybe a comfortable couch to lay on! Once you've looked through this website and have read as many of these letters as you can possible stand, call an adoption center! It will do you, and a Grey, a world of good!

You're sight is fabulous! It's nice to have an adoption agency so close to home. Have considered adopting a Greyhound for some time now and now that I have a home with ample running space available and plenty of love to give him/her, am going to start looking into the adoption process very soon. Was refered to your sight by Cheryl at aGreyhound agency in Oklahoma. It would seem there are so many good-hearted people out there so willing to help out a Greyhound in need of a home. Keep up the good work. :)

I, along with my family, am very interested in and eagerly looking forward to adopting our very own Greyhound. All that I have read on tham, (and I've checked out every book the Library could get me), confirms that this is the pet for my family. All that remains now is to confirm that the Grey will not cause allergic RXNs, as do cats, and to get the yard fenced. What a privelege it is to be able to save and love such a pet. And the blessings he/she will bring are sure to be many !

Would like my next pet to be a greyhound so thought I'd
read up! Great information! I have 5-acres fenced, and
a heated garage in Colorado...do you know how cold of
temperatures that a greyhound can comfortably tolerate?

adopted "big al" last year-would not even look at me when we met-after a few weeks of getting to know each other he is one of the few companions I enjoy spending my time with. new owners take heart-these guys just need to get used to having a home and getting loving attention.

The first time that I saw a greyhound was at a pet store
and some adopt-a-greyhound representatives were showing
off the dogs. So of course I automaticlly fell in love
with them and now I am thinking about adopting one or two.

I've been looking for a dog to adopt and was going to go to the Humane Society when a friend suggested that I adopt a Greyhound because a Greyhound has the exact characteristics I am looking for.
After talking to other owners and reading through the entire site I can't wait to start the adoption process!!! It's nice to be save a life.

Very nice and informative. We've been thinking about
doing this for some time now but apartment mngr would not
allow it. We'll be settling on a house this month and one
of the first things on the agenda is adoption. Keep up
the good work!
