Hi there!
I've been surfing for about three months about greys and they sound fantastic!!!!!
Your site is great - very informative. I am about to meet my first greys in person
tomorrow and am hoping to adopt one soon. I have two teenagers, 1 Lab X, 1 Spaniel X,
and three older cats and can't wait to add a grey to the mix. They sound like a twin of
my Spaniel X "Buddy" who loves to walk, cuddle, be a coach potato and a "furnace dog"
(curl up in front of the hot air vent when it is blowing out hot air!). Our Lab X "Skye"
is very rambunctious so hopefully that won't be a problem.
I feel like I have really done my homework thanks to your web site and can't wait until
tomorrow when I get to see two greys in person. Hope to be back to you with good news about
adopting soon.

My beautiful 3-1/2 yr old red/black brindle "Gator" adopted me on May 1 by putting his cold, wet nose in the palm of my hand when I wasn't looking. I fell in love, and the rest, as they say, is history! Gator has fit in wonderfull
y with our 10 yr old Black Lab, who now thinks he's a puppy again and willingly shares his big pillow with his new buddy. I have questions, however, on the transition period. How do I get this big guy to sleep all night outside his kennel? He seems to
feel disoriented by the freedom and feels the need to get up and move every couple of hours, much to the dismay of this sleep-deprived writer! I still keep him in the kennel at night in order to get sleep (both of us!). Second question, and I'm sure a c
ommon one, how to get him to stop eating or chewing everything in sight, edible or not! I feel so bad for him when he ends up with an upset tummy, and I've had to keep him in his kennel while we're at work in order to curb this. I want him in the backya
rd with his bud as much as possible, but I don't feel he's safe when he eats flowers, dirt, etc.!
Anyone interested in adopting in the Denver, Colorado, area should call Greyhounds as Pets in Colorado Springs (1-800-RITE-PET). They are located right at the racetrack and are absolutely wonderful folks.
Thank you for this site and the opportunity to talk to other greyhound lovers!

I'm a representative of Greyhound Pets of America, Inc. located in Keene, New Hampshire (New York State chapter)
I'd love to help in any way I can in the NY area and should there be people who wish to adopt in my area, I'd be happy to talk with them. We also have three greyhounds of our own..."Betty Boop" a 4 yr old black and white female; "Legs Lancer", a 3 1/2 ye

I'm just beginning to gather information to see if I would be the appropriate "MaMa" to a retired greyhound. I live in the city but have a large fenced yard. I do work during the day, but have my evenings and week-ends to devote t
o my pet friends. The dog(s) would be kept inside during the day with free roaming of the house. How do greyhounds adapt to sometimes extreme cold and snow/ice. St. Louis winters are unpredictable to say the least!

We have 2 greyhounds one is Lady Ebony and the other is Cascade Shots. Ebbie We planned on Shots was a foster child. That just couldn't leave after 8 months. Now there is no way we could part with him. We also have a black and tan G
erman Sharpard Shadow thinks he's a GH. We don't have the heart to tell him other wise. If you don't have a GH. you should and if you have one get 2.

My husband and I were "picked" by a beautiful 5 year old
brindle male named Keystone 4 months ago. Already we are
condsidering another. He is loving, gentle, and wants to
play a lot. He is quite a sight to see when he begins his
occasional race in the yard! I was wondering about his
sleep habits though. No matter where he sleeps, usually in
an open kennel in the bedroom, the slightest "hiss" sound
from t.v., or my husbands snore will cause him to fly out
and run. Is that normal? Many thanks to the Adopt a
Greyhound program here in Jax. They really care about
the dogs that are in their care. None are put to sleep,
they all get adopted!

We love this site and the greyt ways that it is helping to inform and educate people about the wonder of knowing a greyhound. Zima adopted us in August of 1996 thru Greyhound Pets, Inc. of Seattle, WA. He is a white and black "c
ow-spotted" boy (tres chic!) and quite the "monster dog" at 2 1/2 years old. His repitiore of tricks includes sitting for his cookie (a real sit, too!) and confusing small children with his spots ("Look, Mommy! A Dalmation!") Our second boy found us a
mere two weeks ago--also thru the wonderful people of GPI. He is 3 1/2 years old, a white and fawn spotted guy with the casual attitude of an old pro. Not the "looker" that his brother Zima is, River looks as if he were put together with spare parts fr
om a sighthound convention--he has the stand-up ears of an Ibzan, the long "Afghan-curl" on his tail, the saunter of a Borzoi, huge thick feet like a Rhodesian, and a lower jaw so tiny, it must have come from a whippet. But his soul is all greyhound--bu
rsting full of love and life. Right now, he's making do on three tires as he has an old broken hock injury that we and our vet are evaluating for treatment. Thanks to you for this terrific site and all the helpful advice we have obtained from it. An ar
ticle on joint surgeries would be right up our interest alley right now!

We just moved in to a place with fenced acreage, and a greyhound,
maybe two? will be our next dogs to adopt. We currently have
a Lab cross and a German Shepherd. We also have a couple
of Thorougbreds "off the track," so are a bit familiar with
"race mentality." I'm presuming that Greyhounds will get along
fine with horses, just as other dogs do, but any tips or hints
from those with equine families are most appreciated...

Hi there. I've signed the
guestbook before, so this is sort
of an update ... see, we only had 4
greyhounds back then ... but on
3/15/97 (the ides of March) we
adopted our 5th beautiful
greyhound. His name is Whizzard,
and he is (or was) a spook ... but
it's just been amazing to watch him
emerge from a frightened cowering
panting pup to a semi-confident,
tail wagging goof-ball. I would
advise anyone out there - if you're
considering among several dogs,
please don't overlook the shy, the
meek, the trembling .... they look
so much improved in your living
room -- and it's so rewarding to
show them "a brand new world".

We just adopted our greyhound 2.5 weeks ago. Already he is
a perfect house pet, member of the family, really. I have a
home-based business and "Dillon" loves to sit with me in my
office. When running errands he loves to ride in the car,
his space is the back of a Pathfinder with a thick comforter
and an open window he is loving every minute of the ride.
Greys truly are the best pet! They offer loyal, unconditional
love to there owners. They are also very comical when at play,
Dillon has a favorite ball and/or bone that he tosses around,
then has this urgent need to chase across the yard! Probably
recalling a race. Owning a Greyhound is a real treat.

Help! We have a wonderful big 78 pound male greyhound who
gets car sick very easily. We don't know what we can give
him in order to prevent him from vommiting on long trips.
He loses it even on short trips(under 2 miles!). We're use
to our dogs being traveling buddies and this breaks our
heart. He has to be boarded instead of traveling with us.
Any suggestions??? We are very happy otherwise. Greyhounds
are wonderful pets. Thanks! BJ & Mac

I am the proud parent of Bessie, a five-year old (white w/brindle patches) greyhound. I think I need to nominate her for the hall of fame! It's wonderful! My husband and I also had Book, (a.k.a. You're O.K. in My Book) who died o
f bone cancer. Greyhounds are such wonderful companions.

I have an ancient beloved Airedale, and when I loose her,
I am going to adopt a retired racer. This looks like the PERFECT dog.The
subject of retired racers is a whole new world for me. Thanks for all these great

We have a 2-year old female greyhound named SISTA FOX that we adopted from Greyhound Pets of America here in Houston in February. She is black all over with white feet and a white chest and a white tip on her tail. We just love he
r!! We laugh everytime we see her sleeping with all four feet stuck up in the air. Greyhounds rule!

I am a college student doing a research paper for a persuasive
speech. I chose this topic (banning greyhound racing) because
of my love for animals. I don't own a greyhound, but I wouldn't
mind it. I literally cried as I looked at the pictures of the
poor helpless creatures beaten and murdered. I admire everyone
who is trying to put an end to this nonsense.

Thank you for all of your informative information. My boyfriend and I adopted a dog about four months ago
and were told Xena was German Shepard/Golden Lab mix. But neither of those dogs had the haunches, or the ability to
run at super speeds or jump over 7' into the air.
