We adpoted a black male "Hondo" 2 1/2 years ago, he has become our baby. The first year it seemed he would never bond to us, but the past year and a half we can see and feel him loving us back. To all new owners persevere, and you will see a personality and heart emerge from your dog too.... We have taught him how to sit, lie down, shake, and were quite surprised with how smart he really is. I loved your website, and hope it will encourage others to adopt a great dog like Hondo.

Your website has been quite a help in my research on greyhounds. Would you suggest a retired greyhound for a first-time dog owner? I've been dying for a dog of my own, and I thought that the greyhound might be a good place to start.

I love my hounds Nice story about the leash and the greyhound thing. all dogs should be kept on one to avoid disaster! I should Know, I saw a loose dog years ago get hit by a car. It was a large rottweiler. But still, all owners should be responsible in knowing where their dog is at all times. That was one accident I've seen, out of many. where there dogs are at all times.

Jake, a beautiful red fawn male, has joined Erin, the most wonderful dog in the world,(really she is),our Lasa/Pom mix, and Sassy, the cat with an attitude, and our family is complete for now. I'd love more Greys, but had to talk hubby into Jake. Greyhounds aren't just dogs, they are friends, companions, clowns, and very educational. Having fun here in Ohio!!!

I have an amazing boy named Boof(aka Cuckoo Clark) He was black when we got him ay 21/2 years, but has become silver frosted and just turned 8. I foster cats for the Rappahannock Humane Society, and right now have 25 cats , 12 of which are Boofs! He can be seen in Cynthia Branigans " Adopting the Ex- Racing Greyhound", and read about in her other book, 'The Reign of the Greyhound". He is my biggest supporter , and the most charming dog, to kow him is to love him. Boof is completely blind, and has been since he was around 4 years old. But I think he sees better than you and me. We adopted him from Make Peace with Animals in Pa.

Am proudly owned by 2 Greys (Super and Wendy), 1 German Shepherd, and 1 cat. One big happy family, and of course we all understand that the cat rules the roost. One never knows what true love is until you wake up in the middle of the night with a Grey's paw in your mouth. They do demand their share of the bed. I am so glad I found this site! Currently my household consists of a three year old cat and an eleven month old black labrador retriever. Needless to say they are spoiled and cherished characters. I am investigating the possibility of adopting a grey. I think the dogs are magnificent (first hand) and their need calls loud and clear. My concern is that the new member of my family will suffer because of the puppy in my puppy. If anyone could lend an ear, I would greatly appreciate your advice. Good luck to all of you. IAM FROM BROOME IN WESTERN AUSTRALIA, AND I WAS JUST WATCHING A DOCUMENTARY ON GREYHOUND RACING AND LIFE AFTER GREYHOUND RACING.WELL I THINK THESE ADOPT A GREYHOUND PLACES ARE A GOOD IDEA. BUT WHAT HAPPENS TO THE GREYHOUNDS WHO ARE TRAINED RACERS BUT ALSO VICIOUS?, I KNOW SOME TRAINERS HAVE BEEN KNOWN TO USE DIRTY TACTICS TO MAKE DOGS RUN FASTER, SO ARE THESE DOGS RETRAINED TO BE FRIENDLY OR JUST FORGOTTEN?. ANYWAY I HAVE A GREYHOUND OF MY OWN NAMED SHARNI, SHE IS ONE YEAR OLD AND VERY ACTIVE, I AQUIRED MY DOG WHEN SHE WAS FOUR WEEKS OLD AND WELL SHE WASENT A VERY WELL LITTLE PUPPY, BUT KNOW SHE IS LOVELY, I DONT THINK I COULD EVER DREAM OF RACING HER. Anyway, I live near Dayton, Ohio and enjoy my Erin a lot. I would be happy to transport, foster, anything. I have a wonderful Greyhound named Aramis. He has brought such joy into our home and into our hearts. He is not only my dog but my best friend. After owning a greyhound I will NEVER own another breed of dog. As a matter of fact I am getting ready to adopt number 2. So to all you people out there "Greyhounds rule! All others drool!"

I adopted a beautiful girl named Haiti to be a companion for my elderly mother. Ma has passed away but I am left with one of the most loving creatures in the world. I also adopted a Maine Coon cat. Poor Haiti puts up with him! Your WEBsite is great and I plan to visit often.

Love what you are doing. We have a 2 year old greyhound. She has been with us for about 1 1/2 years - rescued as puppy and never raced. She lives with our lab/golden cross and five cats. Wouldn't trade her for the world.

Hi! I'm with the Greyhound Adoption League, GAL, in El Paso, Texas. We work with, and get our dogs through the GAL in Tucson, Arizona. My wife and I are a foster family. We are currently fostering dog #15 and we've been doing this a year. We've kept two of the dogs, a wonderful boy named Art, and a screwy but loveable girl named Dew. (Her trainer drinks a lot of Mountain Dew!). They make terrific pets and we love helping the cause. The Greyhound Project has a terrific calendar and I love your web page!

We adopted two Greyhounds, one bitch CHELSEA 4 years old from N.C.D.L (Birmingham U.K.) and one male ASTON 11 months from TIA RESCUE CENTRE (York U.K.). We are french and now living in West Africa. Chelsea and Aston really love the African climate and are very happy under the sun, and they are probably the only greyhounds in West Africa. Until now this is the best web site we found about Greyhounds of course. Thank you bye bye.
