Just did a search on greyhounds and found your site. I've had mine (or she's had me) since Oct. of 96. It had been 3 yrs. since my shepard mix died. I always said she was the best dog in the world. Now that I have Belle (Aries B elle) she is the best dog in the world! Greyhounds are so affectionate and expressive. When I come home, Belle jumps up & down but only her front paws leave the ground. It's like a child jumping & clapping in excitement. If I had a fenced-in yard I'd get another one in a flash.

I do not own a greyhound, but I would love to in the future. I am currently a student and live in an apartment. I do not think it would be fair to adopt a greyhound at this time. I will be looking forward to owning one in the fut ure. My aunt in New Hampshire adopted a greyhound. She is the most playful, loving dog anyone could ever know. I really enjoyed the page.

Hello! Love this web site! Congratulations to all you lucky people who have adopted one or more of these magnificant greyhounds! I am a breeder/trainer. I have many of my own racers and many that are owned by others. I also hav e three living in my home. We shed a few tears every time one of "our" kids gets adopted. Many of these tears are because we will miss them terribly as well as happiness knowing they are going to people like you all who will love and cherish them in th eir retirement years and we do during their racing years.

I am a huge supporter of Adopt A Greyhound. I have a 16 year ol greyhound. His racing name was Wild Sixpack, we just call him Sixpack. I'm also 16 years old, and i've had this dog for 12 of my 16 years. He is the greatest friend and companion i've ever had. I keep adopt a greyhound stickers on all the family cars, every where I go people ask me where they can go to adopt one. This really makes me feel happy because I know i'm helping save a life and i'm also helping someone ge t a wonderful friend. Keep up the good work.

My husband and I have a 4 year old grey named Sam who we have had for three months, and also have a young female foster dog who will go to her new home in just a few days. I am looking for a pattern for sewing a toy greyhound. I have seen one, but the person who owned it had purchased it, so knew nothing about a pattern.

We are thinking about adopting a greyhound. We have pre-school age children, who understand about being gentle with animals and are very well-behaved, but are still young children. Are greyhounds tolerant of young children?

We are so fortunate to have Imokie Larry in our house. We got him 2 years ago when he was 4&1/2, and he was very loving and sweet, but depressed at first. After all that time at the track, it was a hard adjustment. But he lives in p erfect harmony now with a lively mutt dog and 5 cats. No problems at all. We love him so much that we tried fostering another grey, but he ended up being here for over 3 months. It nearly broke my heart to have to give up Ricky to his new owners. Larry had to have his tail amputated after he was here a few months. He would wag his tail so hard when we came home from work that he wounded it on the kitchen cabinets, and it just wouldn't heal. My wonderful vet tried many things, but in the end ampu tation was all we could do after he got infected. However, there were no problems after that, and he smiles now instead of wagging. (altho the stub still talks to us)

We've been adopted! This is an update to let everyone know that Gem (racing name: Golden Asset), an almost 4-year-old red fawn, picked David and me to be her new parents. We go back to Carl and Judy at Adopt-A-Greyhound Atlanta on Saturday morning to bring her home. . . I ha ve a feeling I'm going back earlier than that, though - it was *hard* to leave her there on Sunday, but I didn't have *anything* at the house ready for her-no food, no grooming supplies, no TOYS! I feel like a new mom . . . hey, even my OWN mom went with me to Petsmart to help get things for her new grandbaby, and she bought a booda bone for her. I'll post an update to you once we have our Precious Gem home. Special thanks to this website for steering in me in Carl and Judy's direction. We wouldn't be getting this lovable grey without their help and the help of the greyhound project.

Ginger, a fine fawn 6yr old female adopted my heart 1 month ago today. (4/19/97 today). My husband and I were lucky enough to get her through Michigan Greyhound Connection, a wonderful organization. Through them, the Greyhound-L lis tserv and Ginger herself, we have learned so much in this past month. We look forward to many many happy years with both our dogs (Also Hawkeye,a 5.5 yr old fawn male greyhound mix we got almost 5 years ago through the Humane Society) Keep savings those d ogs everyone. I help with adopting greyhounds in the Denver Colorado area, have been active for about 5 years and have placed 300+ hounds into great homes. I love my work, they are the greatest dogs. My own three are scattered around the room on the flo or, as I leave our mark. My pets are also very responsible for these adoptions, people see them and instantly want one. My wish is to one day run out of greyhounds to adopt...

AFTER HAVING ROMEO FOR A YEAR ,WE ADOPTED OUR SECOND GREHOUND AND HIS NAME IS "TEX". TEX IS A BIG BLACK MA LE WITH A WHITE CHEST AND WHITE FEET. HIS BIRTH DATE IS 04/01/91. ROME0 AND TEX SHARE THEIR HOME WITH OUR STANDARD POODLE "MAX". THEY ALL GET ALONG VERY WELL AND LOVE EACH OTHER. MY WIFE AND I SPEND MUCH OF OUR FREE TIME INTRODUCING OUR GREYHOUNDS AND MAX TO PROSPECTIVE ADOPTEE'S ,WITH THE HOPE OF FINDING MORE HOMES FOR THESE BEAUTIFUL ANIMALS. MY WIFE AND I WOULD LOVE TO ADOPT ANOTHER GREYHOUND,BUT THE TOWN WE LIVE IN HAS A THREE DOG LIMIT.WE WILL EVENTUALLY MOVE. WE HAVE MADE MANY FRIENDS IN THE THREE Y EARS THAT WE HAVE BEEN INVOVED WITH OUR GREYHOUNDS AND IN SOME CASES FEEL THAT THESE FRIENDS AND THEIR DOGS ARE FAMILY. WHEN WE GET THE CHANCE, WE LIKE TO TRAVEL WITH OUR DOGS. WE HAVE TAKEN THEM TO FLORIDA,S.CAROLINA, VERMONT AND SEVERAL OTHER PLACES. TH EY JUST LOVE TO GO ON VACATION WITH US. THEY ATTRACT ALOT OF ATTENTION. PEOPLE LOVE TO SEE AND PET THEM.WE JUST LOVE OUR DOGS. IF ANYONE WHO IS READING THIS IS CONTEMPLATING ADOPTING A GREYHOUND,ALL I CAN TELL YOU IS "JUST DO IT". What a wonderful website! I have printed so many of the pages so I can read up on everything I need to do to be a good human to a rescued greyhound. I've even found some local names to call about getting the adoption process rolling . Now that my husband and I are in a house and our work schedules have become less insane, we feel that the time is right to bring a dog into our lives. We're calling this week to get some estimates on putting a high fence around our yard. THANK YOU for s uch an informative site!! Having grown up in house that (at one point) had 17 German Shepherds in it, I am excited about sharing my house with a big, goofy-smiling dog! Thank you, thank you, thank you. Your site convinced me that adopting a rescued greyhound is the way to go.

I adopted Mikey on April 3rd, and he has been a gem! This is my first greyhound. I brought him home to meet my Irish Wolfhound and it was like he's always been here! Mikey was in a foster home for 3 months and his foster parent was just about to take him as her own because she had not placed him. I'm just glad I got there when I did. Everything I have read and heard about greyhounds is coming true. What a truly wonderful dog. I have meet some super people in The Lake Erie Greyh ound Rescue Association. For anyone considering adopting a greyhound, DO IT!! We love our Miss Gidget. She has adapted to our family as if she were born into it. Shes great with my kids. We have had her for 4 1/2 years and not once has she even snarled at m y kids, even when woken from a dead sleep. Shes great and gives lots of love. I'm considering registering her as a service dog to visit hospitals and nursing homes, she is that good with all people.

I live with two greys; Meicah is a dark brindle with a white face and she will be 6 soon. I've had her for a year. I adopted Kedar in november and he is a dark brindle(almost a chocolate brown). He will be 4 soon. It took about a week for Meicah to accept him, but now that he understands that Meicah is the boss, there are no problems. Both are big "smilers" and they frighten strangers a bit with their teeth. Once I explain they are smiling, people lavish love on them. I would reccommend a greyhound to anyone who wants a lovable couch-potato!!!

We adopted our Greyhound (Miles McFly) from Greyhounds as Companions in the Albany, NY area. Our decision to adopt was primarily based on the information that was found on this website. Greyhounds are a breed fairly uncommon in our area so we had many misconceptions of their temperament and disposition. P.S. Miles is fawn and was born 10/22/94, I see that you have a picture of a fawn Stewie McFly. I wonder is they are related?

I would like to adopt a greyhound. However, I own 2 cats and a female dog. Since Greyhounds are trained to chase things, would it chase my cats. They are use to being chased (playfully) by my dog. One cat is skiddish and will us ually run and hide is slightly frieghtened. The other will turn and stand his ground. My dog is sweet and loving to all creatures and loves to romp and play. I do not know if getting a greyhound is a good idea. But I do hate to think I need to wait until my cats are gone, seeing how that will be 10 - 15 years. I would never forgive myself if anything happened to them, b\c of another animal I adopted. I would appreciate any info. you have.

I am the human of a 2 1/2 year old, Fawn Greyhound. She is the best thing to ever happen to me! My "kid's" name is Fawn. Fawn adopted me in August of 1996. We first met each other at Hav-A-Heart Greyhound Rescue and Adoption loc ated in St. Louis, Michigan. I, too, have since become involved helping Hav-A-Heart care for this "Royal and Loyal" Breed. I cannot begin to express the happiness that little Fawn has brought into my life. Many of the ex-racers that Hav-A-Heart rescues have been abused, abandoned and/or starved. If only more people would CHOOSE to really open their eyes and see the reality of the treatment that these beautiful souls are forced to endure, perhaps one day Greyhound racing will be forced permanently "out of business"! I love this site and will be including it in the web page I am developing. Our greyhound is not your typical greyhound as we adopted her as a puppy. She never attended puppy camp and never had her spirit broken. She was the most unique puppy I have ever seen! We couldn't pass up a puppy, though, and named her Patience. Also, we have an adolescent boy with autism and other disabilities, so between the two of them, we figured we would need lots of Patience!! Now approaching her third birthday, Patience is a WONDERFUL dog. She's sensitive yet spunky. She's considerate of smaller animals and will lie down on the floor so kittents and my mother's mini daschunds won't be afraid of her. She's always glad to see me! PS: My web page is in the development stage. If you don't get to it, try again in a few days. This whole process is new to me so I don't know how long it will take me to get the bugs out!

I have looked at your site several times and found the information helpful. At this point in time my fiancee and I live in an apartment with a dalmation - lab cross so any other large dog at this point in time is really out of th e question. We do own a home that we will hopefully be able to live in sometime before the end of 1997. I have considered adopting a greyhound for some time but I would want to make absolutely sure there would be no problem with our other dog, Kurby. K urby is a friendly dog but she is a little skittish at first of dogs that are taller than her. I have done some research about greyhounds over the last couple months and I know they are not generally aggressive dogs but I worry that any animal may have p roblems with all of the changes that would be happening for a dog. Our dog is obediance trained (although sometimes she suffers from selective hearing, kind of like my fiancee) and she is very spoiled in some ways. If in the next year we were to conside r adopting a greyhound, what steps could I take now and when the time gets closer to ensure a smooth transition for both dogs. Are there any personality traits I should look for in a greyhound that would make this easier? Is there any specific age range that would be better (Kurby is 3 1/2 years old)? I know greyhound that are not used to stairs, windows and pools when they are first adopted from a kennel, is there anything else that could be dangerous that I should know about? Should I get a male or a female (Kurby is a female and I have heard stories about 2 female dogs not getting along together)? I have heard that when fencing a yard for greyhounds one should put in a 6 foot high fence, is this so? When our house is fixed, it will still be a rel atively small house (even though the yard is quite large) could there be a problem with indoor space for the dogs? I have many more questions but I don't need immediate answers because it will likely be several months (at least) before our house is fixed and we are able to move in. I would, however, appreciate your reply. Thank you for your patience with this long letter.
