I would love to adopt a greyhound but I'm afraid my parents wouldn't go for that in a heartbeat we already have four dogs and all of them are drop offs we live in the country and people don't realize that when they just leave their dogs in the middle of no where that others find them and take them in because they feel sorry for the pooch. Greyhounds are beautiful dogs and some day I hope to have one.

I am investigating adopting a greyhound or two. I would like to visit some greyhounds as I have only read about them. We have a 17 year old dachshound which probably would not get along with a new dog so we are planning for the time she will no longer be with us. I have not found any adoption agency yet around Cincinnati.

We adopted a 4 1/2 year old male, black & white greyhound last September and he is an absolute joy. He never gets off of the couch, but when he does, watch him go. ACEY is a gem and a major mooch. Our kids are always sneaking food to him behind our backs. He loves that. He has adapted well to the house (including the cats), except they don't really care for him too much. Should anyone in Ontario be interested, please contact Niagara Greyhound Adoption. They are very knowledge able and just like doting grandparents. They are always following up to make sure things are going well. Should anyone be looking for a house pet, then the Greyhound is definately the way to go. We love our ACEY Buddy.

Earlier this year I asked about Asthma and Greys. Well we have Sam an 80 pound pet weight a white brindle. He sure found a home here and we love him very much. He sleeps on the bed with us at night. We have a king size bed. What we ever did without him I don.t know. Up tp this point I had Dobermans an excellent dog, but couldn,t have one because of my Asthma. If anyone in Western Mass would like info or see the days we have in foster homes let me know and I will more than gladly get back to you immediately. I'll never bee without one as long as we live. Hi everyone, We have just adopted a very sweet greyhound from greyhound friends. He was in a kennel with 40 other dogs that was shutting down. He raced in the new england area. The foster home he was at did a great job. He loves everyone he meets. His racing name was hot rod flyer. We just call him flyer. He has told us we should adopt another one,or be a foster home. in

what a great site, as the proud co-owner of a frisky red fawn let me just say that I love being an ambassador to my ambassa-dog.She often delights in going to adoption meet and grrets, seeing elderly people and cranking it up in the 1/2 acre fenced yard.Saving these beautiful animals is reward enough, but seeing them smile makes it all the better.

We adopted Amber 1 week ago from her foster parents, Robyn and Larry Phillips. Whe is a twoyear old fawn female and we have all bonded well. She suffers no separation anxiety from the previous six greyhounds she resided with. Despit e her short coat, she loves going for walks in the Wisconsin snow. She also loves to run on a nearby tennis court. Watching a greyhound run is one of life's pleasures. Our daughter is moving to a dog friendly apartment in a few months and plans to adopt o ne of these wonderful creatures.

Ever since it's inception, I've found this site to be an invaluable resource. What a thrill it is to see that there are individuals willing to invest the considerable time necessary to not only maintain, but constantly improve site s of this character and integrity. My wife and I have worked very hard to rescue and adopt about 200 greyhounds over the last three years and believe that the Internet is one of the best ways to distribute the information necessary to keep everyone "on the same page", so-to-speak. Thank you Dan for your hard work and dedication to the cause of these gentle and so deserving greys. A contented groan from Jones as well as a gentle "nit" from Jill to all.

We have two ex racing Greythounds, Miss Phoebe Girlie Girk and Mr. Kirby the Big Black dog. Everyone who meets them falls in love with them and seem to want to contribute to their names. Miss Phoebe received her add ons from an el ementary school staff. Mr. Kirby received his from 300 children after they'd read Clifford, the Big Red Dog. Both of them are a joy and seem intent upon bringing laughter, caused by their antics, to our household daily.

Hi, I am in Ohio and am opposed to any type of dog racing. The city I live in is Geneva. I read in our paper (Star Beacon) that the city of Geneva-on the Lake is considering racing greyhounds. I am appauled at such a disgusting spor t. Any suggestions on ways to prevent this from happening? Geneva-on-the-Lake is a resort city, so they feel they will help the economy by racing greyhounds. I believe most people feel that it is wrong, but what can we do? Linda

hi,just found this page, its wonderful. My name is joanne and I adopted"Tweak" (Burmar Bitohoney) 2 years ago. She is going to turn 5 in October. I also raise and show Shetland Sheepdogs, and Tweak is my puppy raiser and friend to all the other shelties. She is my calm, loving companion -a break from the hair & excitement of the shelties. She goes to all the shows with me and always attracts attention, she loves everyone. Tweak has already gotten her AKC CGC certificate, I am a pplying for on ILP # from AKC to eventually do obedience with her, but my happiest day came when she was accepted as a therapy dog with THERAPY DOGS, INTERNATIONAL! We have gone visiting to alot of places, but now it will be alot more places to go and vi sit. I live in Wyoming and have lots of snow and cold(below 0 temperatures) and she becomes a couch pototo on the really bad days, greyhounds don't so cold! I would love to communicate with anyone who has and interest in these dogs, therapy work, or jus t anything about dogs. Please feel free to e-mail me, I have had her two years and would be glad to share any knowledge that I have living and working with girl.

We are seriously considering adopting a greyhound. Our last and most favorite dog was a red doberman. We lost her to hip dysplasia. Nice to know that that is not a problem with greyhounds. Most of the dobie's sweetness probably come s from greyhounds. Another plus is you don't have to do earsa and tail. Is anybody afraid of a greyhound?

My wife and I ran into two adoption groups showing off their Greyhounds this weekend. These dogs are very loveable. We will probably adopt one soon. You have a wonderful and informative web site. This is what the Web is all about. Great information. Scott Whittaker

We just adopted a Greyhound in Jan of 97. Her name is Laverne. I don't know how we ever lived without her. We also have three cats and everbody gets along just fine. We are so struck by her that we added a Greyhound page to our web site at http://www.pcisys.net/~mongoose. We can't say enough about the owning of a Greyhound. She is a love sponge and very smart. We will always own a Greyhound. When Laverne passes away we will get another, not to replace her, but to give another ex-rac er the change to have a life outside of the race track. Can't beat them Greys!!!!!!

Just found your site today...yesterday a fellow mentioned adoption for greyhound dogs. We are interested at this point. We have a lady here in Dallas, Texas that we may contact. It sounds like they would make fine family...house companions. Thanks.... iwolfe@nkn.net

Hello, I represent GEMA which is a group that was established in 1996, dedicated to providing financial assistance to Individuals and Groups that experience unexpected, overwhelming medical expenses due to illness or accident of their retired racing greyhound. GEMA is a non-profit organization with Articles of Incorporation filed in the state of Florida (#N97000000074). GEMA has a brochure that they would like to provide for you to include in your groups adoption packets for new owners and also to have available in case your group should need the assistance of GEMA. These brochures are free of charge and you may order a s many as you need. Once GEMA receives your order they will try to mail them out within 10 days. If you would like to order brochures please send e-mail to sburkhard@qtm.net and advise: Name of group, mailing address, Number of brochures needed, and phon e number of contact person in case of a problem with your order. GEMA is also currently in the process of producing a booklet that will consist of contributions from the greyhound community. This booklet will include recipes created for our greys, tips, thoughts, poems, and things pertaining to daily living with greyh ounds. We don't have a cost on this booklet yet but are looking for basic interest at this point for sale as fundraisers, reunion picnics, gifts, appreciation awards, ect. If you or your group would be interested in something like this please let me kno w. Thank you for your time, I look forward to hearing from you. You can visit the GEMA website for more info at http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/9003 Sincerely, Sue Burkhard GEMA volunteer

The site's great. I recently adopted a five-year-old racer (formerly Hard Tack, now Fargo the Wonderdog).I'd like to know if anyone in the Upland, Ca. area knows of a good fenced site for running, and also if there are any GPA or other picnic/get-together type meetings coming up in this or nearby areas. Also, what does it mean when he chatters his teeth? Thanks for any help.

Thanks for the site and links. We have an adopted greyhound named "Who's St. Francis?" by the breeder, as she had just heard a bit about the saint and was stuck for yet another doggie name. It's good to see this and more of the same helping this oft abused breed.

We have four ex-racers (Stevie, Harry, Amber & Amy) who share our lives, our bed, our couch and who make our vacation plans for us. We wouldn't have it any other way. If anybody knows of any fenced in fields in New England (that allow dogs, of course) please e-mail me. And, if you're thinking of getting a greyhound -- or another -- or another -- or even (!) another after that ... drop a line, I love to talk about these pups!

This is a wonderful site for people who are interested in adopting a retired racer. and just a word for all those people who love the beautiful greyhound breed but who are unable to at this time due to one reason or another(like renting a home with a limit on animals!!!)I have been actively involved as a volunteer, for Greyhound Pets of America Lakeside, CA Chapter for over 2 years now. Because I am unable to own ( but will one day ) a greyhound or two or three,I volunteer with this great organization. I help out with the 1 of 4 daily turnouts twice a week ( it started as twice a month) and also help with the merchandising and shipping of our GPA sales catalog to help support our facility as well as helping to plan our semi-annual GPA picnic. Because I cannot own a greyhound at this time, I can't explain the feeling I get when we bring a group of dogs to our kennel, that are very confused and don't have a real personality as yet, to watching them come out of thier shell and show how loving and wonderful this breed really is. They crave your attention and touch when your in the turnout area with them and love the human contact ( usually by leaning against you legs also known as the velcro dog) they recieve. So I urge anyone who cannot own a Retired Racer, to get involved with a local chapter in your area as a volunteer !!. But be careful it becomes very addicting......
