Have had a retired racer (Action Angle) for two years. One of 12 in litter. It was the mother's first litter. Mother and 10 puppies died the first night. Only Action Angle and his sister survived. Action and his sister were HAND-FED and reared by the breeders. (So much for the misconceptions out there about breeders.) His sister (name unknown) never raced. Action is a big boy (80 lbs) that raced at Planfield, CT and Birmingham, AL. Born in Lee, FL. Father was Fine Timing, one of the 100 winningest greyhounds of all time. Has had two seizures in the last two days. Age 6 1/2 years. Vet running blood tests.

My FAmily just adopted an Italian Greyhound named RAndy, RAndy was abused and left for days without food or water when we got him we where sure that he was not going to take to the family right away, BOY where we wrong from the time he has arrived he has been religiously by my 3 yr old daughters side as if they were made to be toghether. I want to express my deepest thanks to all of the people who are giving dogs as sweet as randy a home. Randy is 1 yr old and he is a blue greyhound he is the sweetest dog you can lay your eyes on, day after day I wonder how anyone can hurt this beautiful dog and the question still lays unanswered...

We adopted a retired racer named Venus West and we could'nt be happier. To be honest this is our second attempt at owning a grey and this time we are having terrific success because we REALLY did our homework. It's very important people read everything they can and understand these dogs. They are not like other dogs, they're more like a child. She fits in greyt with our two small children, two Pom's and one sneaky cat. We love her dearly.

My new little girl "Summer" is arriving tomorrow from the Daytona track and we can hardly wait! I had a little experience with a retired racer 30 years ago when one came to be my alma mater's resident mascot. I never met a sweeter, more gentle dog, even in all the confusion of a college campus-living in a boy's dorm! I have wanted one ever since. My son leaves for Purdue University this summer and I want a companion, so it's finally my chance.

Myself and my 3 children want to adopt a Greyhound in a couple of months, but my husband doesn't want 2 dogs in the house, we already have a small Shitzu. We are not sure how we can convince him to change his mind. We think Greyhounds are the best breed we have ever been around, especially when it comes to a large breed. I am so happy we found your site. S. & J.

It took a long time to convince my husband that we needed another dog after putting my black lab/brittany spaniel named Gypsie to sleep. My husband said he couldn't go through that again! But after three years of research on greyhounds, and talking day and night about adopting a greyhound, and all of our friends hounding him, he gave in!!! I always knew my next dog would be a greyhound, and I know my husband has never regretted it. As a matter of fact he named her...........he said that we were probably her last ray of Hope, and felt that was an appropriate name for her! So Hope has been with us for almost four years now and she is my best friend!!! Now......if I could just convince him that Hope needs a friend!!!

I adopted our Grey in August 1999. She is the love of my life. She has adapted so well in our busy family. We have a cat and two children. Once the adjusted to our lifestyle it was as if she had been here all along. I can not recommend enough what wonderful pets these dogs make. I will probably have only greyhounds (rescued, of course) as long as I have dogs. I currently am trying to convince my husband that she needs a playmate. I know that she WILL get one but for me it wont be soon enough. They are truly wonderful dogs. Thanks for all that you and all others do to help rescue these beautiful and graceful animals.

Adopting him was one of the best things we have ever done. He is our sweetie boy. Keep up the good work.

So nice to find a site dedicated to Greyhounds. I have a wonderful 11 1/2 year old boy named Cairo. He has been an absolute incredible dog since I rescued him when he was 5 yrs old. Unfortunately, I received some bad news last night. He had a large lump removed last week, the results from the biopsy came back and he has been diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma. The vet doesn't think he has more than a couple months left to live. Needless to say, I am devastated by this news. Supposedly, it is common in older Greyhounds, Italian Greyhounds and Whippets. Does anyone have any knowledge/experience with this form of cancer. It is a very aggressive type of cancer. He has meant so much to me and given me so much joy. Greyhounds are such sensitive, loving animals. He is best buddies with my 3 cats and 3 Basset Hounds. Please e-mail me if you know of this cancer. I have an appt. with an oncologist on Thurs. for a consult. Also, if anyone knows of the lady who does rescue in Acton, CA, please give me her name. I hear she has a wonderful kennel for boarding, and I need this for when I travel on business.

HI AGAIN! I was here about a month ago, telling everyone about adopting Clancy. Well he has been here since Jan.27th. and I have never been more happy. He is such a sweety. I have to say I am just in love without a doubt. Clancy hates to be left alone and is very nervous when he knows its time for me to go to work. He is curently on amatryptoline for this but after a recent vet visit I discussed putting Clancy on some different meds. The vet suggested clomacalm { Vet. is greyhound friendly} Its relativly new but has good results I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this drug. Clancy is not doing well on the other meds so I am looking to improve his separation anxiety. Any info would be appretiated, Thank Dar

I have thoroughly enjoyed my visit to your site. It shows this magnificant breed in the light they truly deserve. Unfortunately in Britain there is still the view that greyhounds are fun to bet on at the track but make vicious, untrainable pets. I might also disagree that a greyhound makes a good pet.A greyhound becomes more of a companion and a soulmate, deserving of a higher staus than just your 'pet'. I am very proud to share my life with Flynn, a greyhound cross and Cora, a lurcher. Both of my friends were rescued as pups and share the house quite happily with four cats. Forget buying pups expensively from breeders, adopt a greyhound and save a life. It will enrich yours!

I love reading about Greyhounds!!! I have one, not a retired reacer though. A friend of mine went to the local race track to look at the greys that were being retired. Needless to say their health was terrible!!! We both ended up walking out with two puppies. There was breeding going on in side the kennels. I took the female who we named "Lacie" my friend to a male who she named "stider". Both puppies were near death due to a tick borne blood disease, anemia among other things. I am happy to report that they both are very happy, healthy and very loved members our families. I love reading about grehounds and showing mine off. She loves to go in the van and watch my kids soccer game, she really wants to get out there and play!! We just love her!!!

We loved four Bernese Mtn dogs over the last 10+ years but their short lifespans and expensive cancers were just too much. We are under the impression that a Greyhound would be the largest breed with the best lifespan and health possibilities. True? Also, we currently have a most interesting rescue dog with strong physical resemblance to a Greyhound and a pit bull, but with an overprotective personality bordering on vicious. She will probably live forever, just our luck. It's frustrating to think we will have to wait for her passing to adopt more dogs. Also, how risky is it to bring a Greyhound into a house with four or more housecats ? ? ? Thanks for your responses.

I don't know if anyone can give me some suggestions. Here is the thing. I have a very loving grey (Babe), I now also have a five month old baby (Tabatha). Babe seems to be ok with her (a little jealous, but ok). The only problem is that I can put the baby on the floor to play or the dog steps on her. She doesn't care if I'm sitting there or not. How can I get her to stop stepping on the baby but involving her in the attention as well. If any one has any suggestions please let me know. I don't want Babe to feel left out, but I want the Tabatha to be able to play too.

It has been great to find your site. I live in England and in the past adopted two retired bitches. I had them for over eight years till they both died of old age. We were a great advert for the wonderful breed... I wobble along on two sticks and at first walking them was like watching the red sea parting for Moses...dogs were picked up - taken in a different direction because other dog owners thought that they were vicious. All it took was love and patience. They were a wonderful part of my life and I was so happy to have them around. There is a lot of cruelty, and abandonment in this country and although there are other folk like me, many owners scrap their dogs... like old used cars... Good luck to you all.

I have two beautiful Greys that are a delight but recently my female, Erin, has begun to show signs of anxiety by becoming reclusive. She will run to her crate constantly! It started by her acting like she was suddenly startled by the furnace kicking on. The only sound is the air coming out of the vents, as the furnace is in the basement. However, she began to run to her crate, which is upstairs in our bedroom, and doesn't come down very often. She acts normal when she does come down or if I call her down but she acts like she suddenly prefers to be in her crate! We miss having her next to us! She will play if I call her down and start playing with her toys but she won't lay down when she is through, she just runs back to her crate again. I would appreciate any suggestions from others. I don't want to put her on medication as she acts normal when she chooses to come out of the crate. She continues to play with Jake, our male Grey and runs with him when they are outside. Her health appears great, normal eating and etc. E-mail from those of you who may have suggestions would be apreciated!

What a great site. We run a registered animal rescue in Norfolk, where we always have Greyhounds available for rehoming. I have three rescued Greyhounds of my own, and they make the most wonderful, easy-going and lazy pet!! If you live in Norfolk and can help in any way please telephone F.A.I.T.H Animal Rescue on 01692-598312.

I love your site. I was in it before trying to research as much as I could on this breed. I was so impressed, I talked my husband into getting one. We got Daisy, a beautiful red fawn on Oct 1, 1999. We've had her over 5 months now and let me tell you, I will never get another breed. She is so sweet. We love her like she is our child. Thanks for the loads of info, it helped alot. Keep up the good work.

We reciently lost Ember a 4 year old Dalmation, another wonderful breed of dog. We both think a Greyhound would be a great replacement. I FOUND YOUR SIGHT HAD MORE INFORMATION THAN I HAD EVER THOUGH. IT ALSO ANSWERED QUESTIONS THAT I HAD NEVER THOUGHT TO ASK. IT GAVE ME THE PROS AND CONS OF BECOMING A GREYHOUNDS COMPANION. I LOVE THESE ANIMALS AND THEIR SLEEK LOOK. THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL CREATURES. IT HURTS MY HEART TO SEE THEM USED IN WAYS FOR ENTERAINMENT AND MONEY. I KNOW OF A PERSON WHO HAS TWO AND GOT THE CHANCE TO VISIT AS WELL AS INTERACT WITH THESE WONDERFUL ANIMALS AND FOUND THEM TO BE VERY LOVABLE AND GENTLE. I AM NOW IN THE PROCESS OF TRYING TO ADOPT ONE FOR MY FAMILY. YOU SIGHT WAS MORE THAN HELPFUL.

We adopted our wonderful Lady(formerly Bionic Lady) in March of 97. Our 2 whippets had passed away in 11/95 and 6/96, and I was determined to never experience that hurt again. However, in 1997, everytime I turned on the TV, I saw the greyhound story. We had to save a life! Our lives are enriched; our baby girl, Lady, is perfect and much spoiled. I appreciate the people who started this program so very much. Thank you!!

I would like to find a grey hound for the vet. i work for to replace the one I want to take home. She is a blood donar and loved very much but she will be 10 this year and I think it's time for her to come home. He will let me have her if I can find him another one. She has saved many lives. And she pampered at the clinic because we know that they are great dogs, the next one will be too.
