I think you and the adoption agencies are doing a great service...why don't more people consider Greyhounds? I am hoping to adopt in the near future. My family owned a poodle for 18 years, and I was never allergic to it. Now I find I have allergic reactions around friends' dogs (none are greyhounds). The Italian greyhounds are supposed to be hypoallergenic...is this true of the larger variety?

I've been waiting years to be out on my own and adopt an ex-racing greyhound! It will only be a few months before I graduate from college and I was wondering if I have to have owned pets as an adult to be able to adopt. I read in the application that you needed a veterinarians reference, but I haven't had one of my own yet. What can I do?

I just did my first greyhound rescue from our local animal shelter. "Lucas" is a beautiful fawn colored 7 yr old; well behaved with our grandchildren, leash train ed and scheduled to be neutered on tuesday, after which he will go to a rescue group in Austin by way of Alpine, Tx. unless some one closer would like to adopt him before next Saturday. Thanks, God!

Having owned greyhounds, both ex-racers and AKC, for years, your work is so appreciated. Nice site too. Incidentally, I took one of your GIFS to use as a link back to you from my Web Site. Hello! My husband and I have 2 greys- Krickett(7yr. old girl) and Zak(3yr. old boy) We got Zak as a puppy from a local rescue group. What a challenge!! Even though he is older he is still a puppy! They both love to dig. Any suggestions on how to stop this? Zak and Krickett live with a 81/2 yr old Chowx named Sandi and a 31/2 yr. old cat named Comet. I adopted Daisy in July 1998. She is 5 1/2 years old and thinks she's about 18 months. She's atypical of a greyhound - quite active and doesn't know she's retired. I had a landscaper build a track for her last Saturday - U-shaped filled with builder's sand. She loves it. The digging has been a problem. She feels newly laid sod is her enemy and up it comes. Hopefully, the yard will regenerate this summer. She is a wonderful dog. These animals need to be saved. So much progress has been made! Thank you.

I can't wait to adopt a greyhound in the future. I would do it now, but my current dog, although very sweet and loving to humans, is very aggressive with other dogs (although she weighs 25 pounds), and I would not want to take the chance. I think it's best if I wait a few years until she is in doggie heaven. Until then, I'll just keep visiting this site.

If any reader has come to this page because they are considering adopting a greyhound, please let me tell you about my experience: Our family adopted "Stripe" 6 months ago in order to do a "good deed" and save a retired racer. What we found out quickly is that our greyhound is the most gentle, loving, intelligent pet we have ever had. Our friends with other breeds have become jealous of our dog. Our neighbors literally run out of their houses to ask questions and tell us what a beautiful dog she is. Stripe has adapted amazingly well to home life. We turned out to be benefactors in what started as a "good deed" for the dog. We could not be happier with our pet, and are now making plans to adopt a second greyhound.

I just adopted "Riley" two weeks ago. He is my BEST FRIEND! He will be three in May. It was absolutely amazing how quickly he became attached to me. Now it worries me because I think he is suffering from seperation anxiety. I live alone and go to work all day long. He goes crazy in his crate even though he was crate trained in his foster home. He follows EVERY step I take. I am not sure if I am torturing this dog. I love him to death and do not want him to suffer. ANY suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Does anyone think that it would be better for me to find him a home where he wouldn't be alone? I do not know if I could bear to give him up. Please help.

Your guest book is excellent with many interesting points of views.Although I own two Greyhounds I am interested to know if anyone in the UK knows of any places where retired greyhounds can still race just for fun.Even though TAZ and BOOTS are now 6 and 7 when they recently attended a show in the Lake District they raced after a pretend hare and they loved it. Has anyone heard of their pet carrying wine glasses in their mouth (not encouraged ) and also jumping onto the back of a horse for a ride while it is still galloping?

What an informative web site! I have enjoyed crusing through it, and now know a lot more than I did just a few minutes ago. We have been seriously considering adopting a Greyhound. We have the good fortune of living by a couple that adopted two Greyhounds a while back. We see them out walking (a lot!) and they are happy to answer questions. I am amazed how sweet the dogs are, considering their somewhat odd early years. We will continue our quest, but this web site has been a great help. Thanks!!

My husband and I are considering adopting a greyhound and your page has been very informative. We actually looked at many breeds when first considering buying a dog, but really love the greyhounds and like the idea of providing a home to one that needs it.

Wow! What a great site! I'm going to begin the adoption process, probably early next month (getting over a knee injury right now), and what a great source of information y'all have provided...I grew up with a Brittany, and despite my love of that breed as well as Aussie's, I think a greyhound would be a perfect fit for my lifestyle...I've got 2 cats right now who were raised with dogs, and the other two breeds can be unpredictable with them, and besides, being single, I don't know how easily i can pull off the whole puppy thing... I've got one question, though: what is the endurance level of a greyhound? I'm an avid outdoor enthusiast, and I am curious about their desire to be outdoors, in the woods, or in a tent, for any amount of time...Like humans, I know that endurance levels have to be increased over time, but are they capable of hiking or running alongside? I'm looking for a companion for both me and my future wife... Thanks!

Enjoyed your web page. I do not own a Greyhound. I have always said when my children were older I would adopt one. I am however very interested in becoming a foster home for the Greyhound. I also do Aussie Rescue Foster Care. Thank you. Beverly

We adopted our first greyhound on the first weekend of March, 1998. He amazed us with his ability to learn and his excellent obidence. It only took a few days for him to figure it out that, if he wants the mussle left off, he needs to leave the pussy cat alone. However, by May, he became lithargic and depressed and we figured that he missed the other dogs he was used to being around. Well, on July 4th, we adopted the female. Did that brighten up the spirits and things have not been the same since. Of course, those who are reading this already know this, and I am only preaching to the choir. what a wonderful animal they are. And all they ask is the basics - food, shelter, a walk or place to play, and Love!

Greyhounds a wonderful intelligent dogs. My sister in law has two rescued greyhounds. she is involved in all the greyhound activies. My problem is that i would like to get her gift items with Greyhound themes. no matter the store or the item i go to get, every dog on earth is available except Greyhounds. and for such a beautiful dog you would think they would be a favorite. being new to the internet, i cant wait to find what i need. Great Web Page! I am fully in love with Greyhounds! I did adopt on e a short time ago but unfortunatly he was not very compatable with my cats. I was devestated when I had to bring him back. I have since then got a Labrador puppy (now 10 months old) but I still can't get the Greyhounds out of my mind!!!! I am getting ready to begin the search for a Greyhound again and I can't wait. I work as a Vet. Tech. and every time one walks into the hospital I get so excited about adopting one. i know now that I have to take it slow and really find an adoption agency that will really work hard to be sure (well as sure as they can be...I understand it can still happen)that I can get a greyhound that will love my cats, or atleast tolerate them as much as I do (love them that is). I also want to become a volunteer with the Greyhound program. I jsut need to research what is in my area and what I can do to help. I really want to be involved. Hope to hear from you and keep up the GREAT WORK! Your friend...Lisa

We adopted Annie in November. We took her to a "Homes For Greyhounds" adoption event in December. That night we fostered Lissa and decided to adopt her also. We attend as many adoption events as we can to answer questions about greyhounds and help place these wonderful animals in good homes. This is a cause we firmly believe in. "Homes For Greyhounds" places greyhounds in Ohio and Kentucky. Contact us if you are interested in adoption. Thanks from the hounds.

I first show a show on ex-racer greyhounds from the show "All about Animals" on night. I thought it sounded great. Later while traveling through Tulsa OK I can across an Ad for this web site. The first chance I got I logged in. I can't wait to get a greyhound. I do have a questions however, can you pick the sex and color of the greyhound you adopt.

Thanks for the help contained on your site. We have adopted a non-ex racer, ( a small cross breed bitch from our local animal rescue picked up as a stray, but we love her just the same), & she has helped my wifeto overcome her fear of dogs, & is much loved by everyone that meets her. One thing that was never pointed out when we adopted Bess is that it costs you several thousand pounds(£'s) to buy a bigger car so that both shopping & dog will fit in! Oh well, such is life.
