I love greyhounds! I can't wait to adopt one!! I'm in the process of trying to buy a home but as soon as I do and am settled in I will begin my search for my little four-legged ex-racing friend. This is a great site by the way!

Our small mixed breed dog of 15 years passed away last August and I didn't want a dog for some time. However, I dreamt of greyhounds one night and decided maybe this was a sign for me to investigate the place a greyhound could play in our family and our hearts. Thank you for a very informative site. It has helped me more than you can possibly know. I found places in St. Louis, Missouri, (which is just across the river from us) that places greyhounds locally. They sponsor events, and a "Get to Know Greyhounds" to encourage people to explore the possibilities of owning a greyhound. Although we still need some time to consider owning a pet again, I believe a greyhound is something definitely in our future. I like their gentle disposition and warm personality. These are a must in our family, as we have large family gatherings, and a dog without these qualities would have a hard time fitting in. Again, thank you for everything you've given us to consider and find out about greyhounds. Sincerely Veronica M. Gruenewald G.C. Illinois,USA

This website is great. I first learned about greyhound adoption from a lady who was bringing a adopted grey to my vet. She spoke so highly of the the adoption that I am now interested. Thanks to this website I have found the information I needed. I have contated a local adoption program and am waiting to hear back from them. It's great to know that once I adopt I have a place to go for info.

I've had my wonderful baby boy(he'll always be my baby) for almost 2 years. His name is Joey and he has one of the longest snouts I've seen on a greyhound, adding to his charm and good looks. We have a female german shepard and they get along great(however, it took at least 6 months to achieve this with the shepard's dominant personality)! I couldn't have asked for a better pet. I do have one question, our adoption group told us not to give him heartgard or heartgard plus, ONLY intercepter would be acceptable. Heartgard is easier to find, however. Why is it that heartgard wouldn't be acceptable??

We adopted Earlibelle (Belle) on December 26th 1998. She was a Christmas present to ourselves. She has earned the nickname Snaggle Snout for the way she "smiles" whenever she approaches us. (she's online with us right now) She rules the house...especially the bed. She loves to eat the garbage, tissues, makeup and whatever else she can get her snout on when we're not looking. But in spite of it all...we couldn't possibly love her any more than we do, and we plan to adopt again next year.

Dear Guestbook folks: This is my second message. We adopted Sammy, our 6-1/2 year old greyhound, about 2 months ago. At that time, I wrote to ask if anyone had advice concerning diarhhea, digestive problems in greys, etc. One of the Guestbook crew put my questions out on a greyhound site, and I got so many replies and good advice!! I heard from people all over who love and own greyhounds, all parts of the country, even Nova Scotia. I did use and implement several suggestions, and our Sammy is doing much, much better - he eats well, is regular, and seems to be adjusting well. My grateful thanks to one and all who wrote to me and took the time to share information. My advice to anyone thinking about adopting a greyhound is to select your adoption group carefully, follow your instincts, and if you have time, a little space and love to share, to go for it! Sammy had a difficult adjustment - he raced for five full years, was very shy and frightened when he came to us, and took awhile to loosen up, relax, show affection, etc. He is developing into a wonderful pet, is affectionate, obedient, and sometimes, very funny. He loves his toys and likes to hang out with our smaller dog, Mini. The people who work for greyhound adoption are doing a wonderful service for these beautiful creatures who are used and then treated so heartlessly. We are enjoying our delightful pet, your informative site, and as I said, are so happy to have heard from so many concerned gh owners. Thanks once again to all of you and keep up the great work!!

We adopted our first GH, "Bonnie," 5 yrs ago, and "Clyde" joined the family shortly thereafter. We fostered "Sarah" for 6 mos. and now she is top-dog with a family of her own. We lost our beautiful "Bonnie" to bone cancer last year; she was only 7 yrs. old. "Clyde" rules the roost now--slightly overweight, a bit greyer in the muzzle, and one of the best-tempered, most loving and loveable dogs ever to grace our lives, and those of our kids and grandkids. May they all know some measure of individual, loving care and attention, a home and family of their own, and a chance to spiritually enrich our lives.

We joyfully adopted a female Brindle through the Phoenix Greyhound Park in Phoenix, Arizona. Bailey (Maricopa Belle was her racing name) has been enjoying her retirement with our Yorkie-Poo (Cuddles) for over four years now. They get along great even though Cuddles remains the one in charge. As I sit here now, they are both sound asleep on the bed. Our greyhound is a pleasure. We wouldn't give her up for the world. I first became interested in the adoption program through a very disturbing article I had read through Reader's Digest of how these wonderful dogs were being distroyed after their racing years were over. We couldn't have picked a better breed. Keep up the great work!

First saw your adoption story on Life TV and think this would be a wonderful pet for my 92 year old mother. She lives alone and is visually and hearing impaired and needs the companionship of a dog. I think any rescue operation whether it be yours or whatever,is a terrific effort and the more people get educated in spaying/neutering their animals maybe we won't have a problem. The more people ignore the racing aspect of this animal maybe we'll be able to see them as a pet not a commodity. Keep up the good work. I'd probably adopted one but we have three dogs, terror/chichauha cross, spaniel/poodle cross and a 9 month old dobie, who are as precious to us as all get out. All our animals, cats included are fixed, and we live on 5 acres out of the city. Keep up the good work. I'm going to call the lady in the Vancouver area to see about the possibility of a dog for my mom. Good luck in your efforts.

Both me and my GH are from England and now live in Nebraska. Neither of us have had to face a winter with temps as cold as this before and I was a wee bit concerned about how Tosti would cope. Well I think he's taken to it better than I have. He loves the snow, when he's out in it he just runs and runs, always with that cheezy grin on his face. We are moving house next week and we intend to get him a lady GH within a week. Keep up the good work....

Greetings from Finland, a small country in northern Europe! I have a 5-year-old greyhound. Thank you for all the work you do for greyhounds. Fortunately, in Finland there is not that much money involved in racing, so man's greed cannot be satisfied at the cost of these beautiful, wise animals. For most people greyhound racing is more of a hobby than profession. Even the racing greyhounds here are treated more as pets than moneymaking machines. Once again, thank you for caring! Thanks for the info! Since getting my first grey, Indigo, about 4 months ago, I'm desperately in love with this breed, and I'm considering getting my second already (When I was first adopting and heard that so many greyhound owners have multiple greys, I swore that I would never do that...I'm starting to understand how so many owners get hooked..) My loving greyhound, Freckles, is 12 1/2 years old and going strong. She thinks she is still a 3 year old!!!! I've had her for 10 years and she is the best thing that ever happened to me. I am a volunteer with the group Greyhound Adoption Service, Inc. located in Salisbury, MA. I want people to know that even those with allergies and asthma can volunteer for their local adoption groups. I just don't go to our adoption kennel that much. I do things from home and do Meet N Greets when I can. Anyone can help their local adoption agency. Give them a call to see what you can do.

Hello, a friend refered me to your site, and I must say that it is a nice one. We have two Greyhounds and I honestly don't know what we did without them. I can't say enough about them, they are truely our best freinds! I've read a lot about the breed, but am finding things out as I look through your site (such as, I never knew Santa's Little Helper, from The Simpson's, was a Greyhound). We adopted Zeke about two years ago, and, although he was quite suited to being an only dog, about seven months ago we got him a companion, Hannah. I think they are good together, good for each other, and good for me and Jenny. Thank you, Mike. P.S. If there is any thing we can do, just let us know.

I have the same problem that Robt. & Cynthia in MA. wrote about - STOOL EATING - by one of my two greyhounds. The culprit is GUNSLINGER - a 2 1/2 year old male. Please forward any suggestions. My problem is not locating the stools - but SPEED in getting to them first. He's quick, and diligent. Gunner had a nervous stomach when he first came to me last November, but this seems to have settled down. My vet and I feel the cause was the stress of being moved to many locations when he was first rescued from the track. He's doing GREAT now with no special diet at all - just Acidopholous once a day for his gut. I want to be extremely careful of anything I add to his diet. Hope you have some ideas. The site is a great resource. I moved into a house with motion detectors. I had them replaced with "pet-sensitive" motion detectors. They won't go off for anything under 80 to 90 pounds. I have 1 greyhound and would like to have another but I am worried if they are very near each other the alarm will go off due to their size (false alarms are costly in my community) - do you have any idea if this would happen?

We adopted Geordie (racing name Acrobat Jordi)about four months ago. He was shy at first-we didn't even know he could wag his tail for three weeks! Now he plays his version of fetch (take the toy and hide it in his room)every night with me. He gets along great with our Lab, our Tibetan Terrier and our two cats. He is the sweetest dog imaginable. There is nothing like Greyhound kisses when you come home or get up in the morning! Whenever the temperature drops, he gives me a treat by doing figure 8's at his fastest speed in the back yard. Every week he is more comfortable with us, and we see how unique he is. We are so lucky that GPA let us adopt him!

Great site, our first time on. We've had greyhounds for 9 years. Have a new girl, 31/2 yrs, with a problem: caprophagy, or, she eats her own stools or those from cats if she can find them. Do you know how to stop this behavior? We want to make them distasteful as we can never find them all in a large yard.

I have a greyhound named Josh, and we got him 8 years ago. He is the sweetest, most mannerly dog I've ever met. Fortunately for him, he never raced, so that he isn't shy and scared. However, the racetracks did leave their mark. When he was a puppy, he was kept in a cage that was too small for him, and as a result he has a crooked front leg. As soon as I can, I plan to adopt another greyhound. There isn't any other kind of dog that I could ever dream of having after this little angel on earth.

WOW! This is one of the best GH web sites I have seen yet. And since I adopted the best dog in the world three months ago, I've become quite a GH web site connisseur. I got Houston from Greyhounds Friends for life in Gilroy, CA. Houston is almost 2 yrs old and came from Arizona but she never had to race, I'm not clear on the circumstances that kept her off of the track, but I'm glad for whatever they were. We have two cats, a jack russel and a fox terrier (or is that terror?). The dogs go everywhere with us, and I have to say Houston puts the other two to shame with her wonderful manners. When we first got her there were many dog things for her to learn i.e., sitting, climbing stairs, having fun, chasing a ball, but she is getting the hang of it now. I would really like to find some GH friends around me for Houston to play with. We live near Santa Rosa in CA. please feel free to e-mail me.

I haven't had a dog for a long time, she had to get used to me working nights and TRYING to sleep during the day. Many nights I had a hard time falling not falling asleep driving home, but things have been a lot better the last 2-3 months. We're lucky here in that we live @5 miles from a local fairgrounds, whose organizers keep the gates unlocked and allow people to bring there dogs there to run(it's fenced in). It's about 40 acres, and she really looks forward to going there to meet new friends. Her best friend is Sheba,a Doberman. She still dosen't have many dog habits yet,but the one she did find was after this years fair, finding the subtle differences in manure. Luckily, she hasen't learned face licking yet...

I already have two wonderfull dogs from west palm beach florida, the trainer Lee Forzley was kind enough to give me her two best dogs and retire them early. Their names are Goldies Andi(Andi) and Ragemuffin(Ringo). We also have a social group which brings the dogs from the entire county for a walk once a month.

Hello! I first saw a local program in Ohio about adopting greyhounds. It planted a little seed for thought. We had a wonderful, beautiful dalmation for 8 years and sadly to say we lost her to kidney failure two years this May. We miss her so much still and miss the compaionship that she always gave. I saw another program once again introducing the greyhound adoption program and decided to do some research on the internet. That's when I found your website. It is a great site and full of good information. I like what I have been reading about the greyhounds dispositon of how they make such a good family dog, because that's what we are looking for. My husband and I are going to do some serious thinking about adopting one of these 'sweet sounding dogs'. I'm also going to check with my vet and see if he is familiar with the treating of the greyhounds. Could you e-mail us with information about any program in the Cleveland Akron area? I would appreciate any information you can give us! Thank-You! We will continue to read your great website.
