I am going to be adopting a greyhound early March once we close on our new house. I cannot wait to be a new mom. I can't believe I haven't had one before. They are the most beautiful creature.

It was my husband's idea to adopt a greyhound to be his dog but once we got her, she became so attached to me, she is now my dog. She is white with brindl spots and a brindl face. Her name is Sweetie and she is the most loving and a dorable dog. And with manners too. I would recommend one to anyone really looking for a companion.

Help! I really want to adopt a greyhound but we have a bird who is part of our family.(a cockotiel) Could I ever leave the two alone or would it always be a risk? I don't think any amimal should have to be caged a bird or dog! any advise would be helpful. We're a three Greyhound family - Amber, 12, Carrera, 9, and Joy, almost 4. We're always on the lookout for information that will help our senior, Amber, have a longer and healthier life. She is in pretty good health, but tires eas ily and sometimes gets a little confused. It's getting to be more of a challenge to get her to eat a reasonable amount of food. She's happy and always enthusiastic about going places and having visitors. We didn't adopt her until she was 10 1/2, so we' re unsure of a big piece of her past, and of what care she had previously. Any advice on seniors is greatly appreciated. Thanks,

I have a 5 yr. old female fawn color named Lacey Love. She loves her love seat but seaks naps on the living room sofa during the day. I know because the throw pillows are on the floor. I take her once a week to a local baseball fi eld. She runs about 2 laps in a circle then she is ready to frolic and play frisbee. She came from the Sanford Track outside of Orlando, Fl. I adopted her thru The National Greyhound Foundation in Homosassa, Florida. Have a Greyt Day.

We Adopted a greyhound last June. She is by far THE BEST pet we have ever owned. For those of you who think a greyhound is not suitable with cats, think again. Molly (a two year old retired racer) is more afraid of the cats than they are of her! She is as smart as a whip and just as fast. Although I must say she spends a good portion of her day sleeping. It's hard to be in a bad mood when she's around. She has an uncanny instinct for lifting ones spirit. For any one who is in terested in adopting one, think no more! Don't delay. Go out and do something good. Adopt a Greyhound!

Though I haven't officially adopted a greyhound through this organization, I do have one of the most lovable greyhounds that any owner could ever have. His name is Eagle. He's 2 1/2 years old [born 8/22/94], a light brindle in color, loves R&R as well (or as much as) food. I adopted him through the Dairyland Racetrack Adoption Program in Kenosha, WI. Glad to see so many others in this book with similar interests in greyhounds.

GPA in Lakeside California helped us meet Miss Phoebe, a white and black female, who came to live with us in July. True to the T-shirt slogan, we couldn't have just one. Mr. Kirby, a black male, moved in with us in December, 96. Miss Phoebe loves perfume and rubs on the carpet in the spot I stood to put it on in the morning. Mr. Kirby is a collector and comedian. We've discovered that the amount of black determines how much mischief they are prone to get into. Anyone else dis cover hair color predicts behavior? LOL LOL

I wish we'd gotten involved sooner however, better late than never. A. Brown entry of 01/08/97 asked about wild rabbits, squirrels etc. & gh. Our 3 yr. old male experienced an expectorant-like cough. Many tests later the University doctors found traces of, "small, unidentifiable worms" in his stool. Was it the squirrel he caught & sampled? Who knows. But, from now on we'll do our best to make sure the dogs don't catch wild rabbits, chipmunks etc.

WE love our "Taz". He's the coolest dog. We adopted him thru the Colorado Greyhound Companions. I enjoy him so much that I volunteer my time to the greyhounds. One day last summer the CGC held a greyhound reunion day. It was the very first reunion we ever have been to and we really enjoyed it.And to our surprise, and which is very rare we met Taz's sister. We talked and the more we talked we were really shocked to even think it could be true so we compared the tatooes in their ears and they were 2 pups apart. And that just made my day. But I didn't take my camera, but next reunion I will. I thought that I would share my little experience with the greyhound world. In my opinion, the greyhounds are the BEST.You will be saving a life of a greyhound and gain a great companion.

Laraine and family are adjusting well, and this is a first time dog family. QUESTIONS-- 1. Any suggestions for improving a sloppy eater? 2. Any suggestions for a Vet with gh experience in Camden County New Jersey? Again, thank you to all who helped in our decision. Now we understand why everyone loves these dogs sooo much!!

A few weeks ago I asked you good folks for info on problems and rewards and idiocyncratic behaviors of adopted retired racing greyhounds for the purpose of developing a major greyhound character for a series of novels. I had many w onderderful responses and thank everyone who took the time to reply. Through a series of events I do not understand, I lost most of my hard drive a few days ago, including my greyhound files. I have the most important stuff in my head however. Do have a couple of further questions. Many of you mentioned that your "owners" sleep on their back with their legs "straight up in the air." Are the legs fully extended, or folded at the joints. Also, my former neighbor's greyhound (who got me inerested in th e first place) was a "collector." He seemed to choose underneath the dining room table as "his place." He collected items from throughout the house to "decorate" his place. For example, he delicately plucked a strawberry off a kitchen counter and took it off to his place. He didn't eat it, he just kept it there. I this typical? Thanks again for your help.

You have created a great site here with a terrific list of resources. Keep up the good work. My family and I adopted Misty, a Blue-Fawn Brindle 4 yr old fresh off the track, about 5 months ago. We then decided she needed canine c ompanionship so we adopted Dio, a 4 yr old black, abandoned AKC Greyhound. They are the best of friends now, except at bedtime, as they try to figure out who will sleep on the favorite bed. Their beds are identical except that the favorite bed happens t o be whichever one is closest to the back door. We love our new friends, but we will always treasure the memory of Windy, our first Greyhound, who passed away about 6 months ago.

The 1st message I left regarded my subscription to "Celebrating Greyhounds" I'm not sure this was the place for that post. My husband & I adopted Whitney, a white gh, almost 1 year ago. She is beautiful and magical--she just make s you feel better by looking into those gh eyes!! She joins our home with a mixed breed dog named Pongo and 5 cats. We have 3 grandkids who come to our house often--the love between Whitney and the kids is mutual. This is a greyt site!!!

I made an entry in the 'guestbook' back in Sept. when we were still in the "considering a Greyhound" phase. We got CHEYENNE (a red brindle) on Nov 16, '96 and I'm still kicking myself for waiting so long!! What a GREAT FAMILY MEMBER he has become! For those of you concerned about small children, cats, and other dogs, we had the same concerns. Cheyenne has been exposed to all of them (including one kid that clearly falls into the "brat" category) and handled himself as a gentleman at all times! To all of you that responded to my September questions, THANKS!

This is a great web site! I adopted retired racer, "Captain Leo, G.P.D." back in August. He joins two other "four-legged" siblings: Chloe Cat and Bob Bunny. I'm the pastor of a small church. Leo helps me out with meetings by gr eeting all who come to the door with a wagging tail and lots of kisses. A couple from the church also adopted a greyhound at the same time. Sometimes Leo and Ceasar have "play dates" I'd like to get Leo into lure coursing. If anyone has any info, plea se write to the address below.

I think your page is great, and have added it to my favorite places to visit. I am a proud greyhound owner of a 4 year old retired racer, due to be put down because she had lost 4 out of 6 races. She is a great gal and gets along fi ne with our other two dogs, a small mixed breed and a Sheltie, plus I also have rabbits that I raise. She does not bother them like she knows they belong here. We live in Southern Indiana. If I had the roon and resourses I would have several, I think Grey hounds are beautiful.

I have asthma. Is it possible for me to have a greyhound in my home? I have read that they are non-allergenic, but I wasn't sure that it applied to asthma.

What is being done to these animals is atrocious!! I am so eager to adopt one of these loving friends for my mother who lives in Charleston, South Carolina. Any and all further information that you can supply me with regarding the greyhound adoption process would be extremely helpful. Please also let me know of your pets character, disposition, "exploits!" and such. They seem like alot of fun and frendship. Thank you, take care, and I look forward to hearing from you soon! I decided to start the new year off by going online. As a "mother" of 2 retired hounds, what better place to start exploring than greyhound info. What a find!! I am still trying to figure out the ins and outs of the web eyc., but ha ve come a long way with the "pups", Roc, a 5 year old boy and his very shy girlfriend, Sonya, who is 4 and change. Love them passionately and can not even imagine life without them now. And to think, when we met them we were stocking up on cat food an d had no intention of adopting a dog, much less a big dog. Ammazing how small they can make themselves! For any of you with concerns about space, we live in a townhouse with the cats and these two snuggle bunnies. It works fine.. so do not let "space" or lack thereof be a deterent. Just have lots of love in your heart and give these marvelous creatures a home. I was excited to see so many Atlanta addresses in the list. Always open for a connection with other greyhound owners. My husband and I live i n Decatur. Both our dogs came from Adopt A Greyhound and we will always be grateful to all the support from Carl and Judy as we figured out there was really nothing so difficult in sharing our home with these guys. Happy new Year. Its time for the dog s bedtime cookies. Just learning the email thing, so suggestions are welcome in that realm too.

Our family is the proud owner of 3 retired greyhounds. We have two males: Jack, who is a five year old black brindle, Leroy, who is a 3 year old black/white dog, and one female, Char Christian, who is a four year old red brindle. We started out with Christian and grew from there. They are the best dogs we have ever owned. If I lived on a farm, we would own many more.

We adopted Bonita, a beautiful brindle female, two years ago. She has given us nothing but love. We call her our lovehound. She loves to go for walks, and chase squirrels in the backyard, but mostly she wants our love and affecti on. She has caught nine squirrels and three rabbits in the backyard. She lives with a cat named Minnie, and now shares us with our newborn son, Benjamin. She was quite interested in Ben when he first came home from the hospital, but now seems to unders tand he is a part of the family. I am sure she will become his protector from the mail carrier, UPS delivery person, and paper delivery person.

I can't wait till my husband and I buy a house, because I want to have a backyard so I can adopt a greyhound. I met my first one, when I was taking my dog to nursing homes through a pet therapy program. The greyhound was gentle and well behaved as well as beautiful. My dog who loves people more than dogs (she rather hang out with humans), she liked the greyhound because they didn't jump on her or try to h*mp her. I think a greyhound would be the perfect dog for my husband and I as well as our dog. i always try to save animals when I can and I think saving a greyhound would be the ultimate
