Located just south of the Big Dipper's handle, Canes Venatici contains a myriad of objects. It was concieved by Johannes Hevelius in 1687. Though unassuming looking, the constellation is envisioned as Greyhounds. The dogs names are Asterion and Chara and are held on a leash by Boötes as he hunts for the bears Ursa Major and Ursa Minor. Johannes Hevelius, Canes Venatici, from Firmamentum Sobiescianum sive Uranographia (Gdansk, 1690)
